Morning Consult: 49% Of Independents Say Trump Should Drop Out

In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s 34 felony convictions for falsifying business documents, two polls conducted after the verdicts show bad news for the Trump campaign.

A new survey from Morning Consult found that 49% of independent voters say Trump should drop out of the race for the White House following the guilty verdicts. And 15% of Republican voters polled think he should end his candidacy as well. According to Gallup’s most recent polling, 45% of Americans identify as independents. Additionally, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 25% of independent voters said they were “less likely” to vote for Trump after his conviction. That same survey found 10% of Republican voters “less likely” to vote for the Donald now that he’s a convicted felon. Still, the Reuters/Ipsos poll continues to show a tight race between President Biden and Trump, with 41% of voters saying they would vote for Biden if the election were held today and 39% saying they would pick Trump. The poll surveyed 2,556 U.S. adults nationwide in the hours following Trump’s 34 guilty verdicts.
