More Democrats have gone public with their calls for President Biden to step aside in the race for president following his disappointing debate performance last week, even as Biden sat down with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News last night to try and dispel concerns. In an interview Friday evening on MSNBC’s “All in with Chris Hayes,” Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) called on President Biden to step exit the presidential race while acknowledging Biden’s years of service. “Mr. President, your legacy is set. We owe you the greatest debt of gratitude,” Quigley said. “The only thing that you can do now to cement that for all time and prevent utter catastrophe is to step down and let someone else do this.”

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, a member of Biden’s national campaign advisory board, became the first Democratic governor to publicly address the state of the race, urging Biden to “carefully evaluate whether he remains our best hope to defeat Donald Trump.”

And then this morning, Rep. Angie Craig (D-IL) became the 5th House Democrat to call on Biden to drop out of the race, per The Huffington Post:
In a lengthy statement on social media, Craig extolled Biden’s “decades of service to our nation” and lauded the president’s legislative accomplishments, but noted that his failure to convince voters about his abilities forebodes a second Trump term.
Craig has joined a growing chorus of Democratic members of Congress to call on Biden to resign: Rep. Lloyd Doggett, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) and Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) have publicly called on the president to step down.
As an elected leader, I feel a responsibility to be honest about what I believe, even when it’s hard to hear.
President Biden is a good man & I appreciate his lifetime of service. But I believe he should step aside for the next generation of leadership. The stakes are too… pic.twitter.com/rtZLz6riDp — Angie Craig (@AngieCraigMN) July 6, 2024
