Louisiana lawmakers have approved a “Don’t Say Gay” bill that would prohibit discussions of sexuality or gender identity in K-12 grade public schools. So, I’m guessing there will be no sex education in public schools? It would seem you can’t discuss the birds and the bees without some mention of sexuality…? The bill, H.B. 122, introduced by state Rep. Dodie Horton (R), passed the state senate 28-7 on Thursday. The state house approved the legislation by a vote of 69-28 in April.
Discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in Louisiana’s K-12 public schools could soon be restricted after the state Senate approved a far-reaching anti-LGBTQ+ bill Thursday. https://t.co/5HEkZtYY4c #lalege #lgbtqyouth

From the Louisiana Illuminator:
Horton’s bill restricts discussion of gender and sexuality in schools, except for topics in approved curricula. This would allow discussion of a romantic relationship in a book but not mentions of a teacher’s family, for example.
Horton said in committee her bill would also block discussion of heterosexuality and cisgender identity. Cisgender refers to anyone whose gender identity aligns with their sex assigned at birth.
Horton’s bill would not just apply to classroom instruction. It also prohibits “covering the topics of sexual orientation or gender identity” during any extracurricular and athletics events, meaning it could potentially hinder student chapters of the Gay-Straight Alliance and other LGBTQ+ student organizations.
Republican Gov. Jeff Landry is expected to sign the bill into law. The same bill was approved last year but vetoed by then-Gov. John Bel Edwards (D). Republican lawmakers were unable to override his veto.
Democrats opposed the bill, saying it’ll exacerbate mental health problems for LGBTQ+ youth. #LGBTQhttps://t.co/CT7j1iwAEj
