Some news items I thought worth your time:
• Variety: Actor Jonathan Joss, who voiced the character of John Redcorn for 10 seasons on “King of the Hill,” died in a shooting on Sunday. In a Facebook post, his husband said Joss was shot by a neighbor after years of “openly homophobic” harassment. He was 59.
• LGBTQ Nation: The World Boxing Council has banned Algerian Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif from competing until she takes a gender test amid right-wing accusations that she is transgender. Note – Khelif’s father has already provided her birth certificate which shows she was identified as female at birth.
• Broadway News: The 2025 Drama Desk Award winners were announced this weekend where “Maybe Happy Ending” took home six Drama Desk Awards, including the prize for Outstanding Musical. Full list of winners at the link. Spoiler – there was a tie for “Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical.”
• X: This tweet from Sesame Street’s social media team garnered over 17 million views and over 380K comments. Of course, the haters had to call the image “grooming” when the message is clearly “everyone is welcome,” and everyone should feel “loved and respected for who they are.”
• CBS News: AB Hernandez, a transgender teen, competed in California’s state track-and-field finals taking home 1st place medals in both high jump and triple jump and she placed 2nd in the long jump. Following a rule change by the California Interscholastic Federation, a cisgender co-winner was named in each of the three events in which Hernandez placed.
• YouTube: Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale arrives in theaters September 12. The film follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the new world of the 1930s.
