Judge Orders Comey And James Charges Dropped

A federal judge has ordered the charges brought against New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey be dropped because the prosecutor who secured the indictments was unlawfully appointed.

The judge ordered the indictments are dismissed without prejudice.

From USA Today:

Senior U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie wrote in opinions on Monday that only a district court had the power to appoint a new head to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, after the previous head of that office departed.

Instead, Attorney General Pam Bondi attempted to appoint Lindsey Halligan, a former personal lawyer to Trump, to head the office.

Halligan secured charges against Comey and James from federal grand juries.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Halligan was legally appointed but that the judge was “clearly trying to shield” James and Comey and criminal charges.

Leavitt may say Halligan was “legally appointed,” but she’s also admitted many times she’s not a lawyer.

Leavitt also told reporters that Trump isn’t “going after” his critics. But Comey James have been frequent  targets of Donald Trump who has publicly lashed out at them on social media.

Last week I reported that Halligan admitted that she never presented the final version of the Comey indictment to the full grand jury before the foreperson signed the charging document. That, on its own, threatens the credibility of the Comey indictment.
