Update: After the first round of voting, it’s an embarrassing result for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). He received 200 votes from Republicans, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) received all 212 Democratic votes, and 20 GOPers voted for other Republicans. It’s the day of the vote, y’all! Will Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) become the next Speaker of the House? Hit the livestream from the Associated Press below to follow the antics. The New York Times is doing a live vote count here. Several reporters who’ve been following the vote tracking closely say Jordan is likely to get the 217 votes he needs (he can only afford to lose 4 GOP votes and still become Speaker), but it may take a few rounds of voting. It took Kevin McCarthy 15 rounds in January to clinch the gavel. Who knows about today? p.s. my two cents – Jordan is a loathsome, anti-LGBTQ Trump toadie who will simply be beholden to the Donald for getting him across the finish line.
