UPDATE: Jordan Loses 20 GOP Votes In 1st Round Of Voting For Speaker

Update: After the first round of voting, it’s an embarrassing result for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). He received 200 votes from Republicans, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) received all 212 Democratic votes, and 20 GOPers voted for other Republicans. It’s the day of the vote, y’all! Will Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) become the next Speaker of the House? Hit the livestream from the Associated Press below to follow the antics. The New York Times is doing a live vote count here. Several reporters who’ve been following the vote tracking closely say Jordan is likely to get the 217 votes he needs (he can only afford to lose 4 GOP votes and still become Speaker), but it may take a few rounds of voting. It took Kevin McCarthy 15 rounds in January to clinch the gavel. Who knows about today? p.s. my two cents – Jordan is a loathsome, anti-LGBTQ Trump toadie who will simply be beholden to the Donald for getting him across the finish line.

A few reminders: Jordan attempted to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, he full-on ignored a Congressional subpoena from the now-defunct House Jan. 6 committee, he’s opposed bipartisan bills on immigration and much more. As an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University, he turned his back on college athletes who reported the team physician was sexually harassing them.  One more thing – he’s never authored and passed a single bill of his own. https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1714326031803310531 NBC News reports on a memo being distributed among Democrats urging them to portray the entire GOP as beholden to radicals should Republicans hand him the speaker’s gavel. “Every Republican who votes for Jordan for Speaker is simply following Trump’s marching orders,” the memo said. https://www.youtube.com/live/Re37bSFjr7o?si=0AGkHktItzVT4M7L
