The vote in the GOP-controlled chamber was 247-187 which included 52 Democrats voting ‘Yes’ helping the Republicans over the hump after 29 GOPers voted ‘No.’
This was a procedural vote in order to allow debate on the bill to begin. The House is now in recess and is expected to come back at 7:15 p.m. to begin debating the actual debt limit bill.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says he will support debt ceiling bill "without hesitation, reservation or trepidation."
