“Grey’s Anatomy” Star Eric Dane Dies At 53 Of ALS

Eric Dane, best known for his role as “Dr. Mark Sloan” aka “McSteamy” on the hit drama Grey’s Anatomy, has died of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

His passing comes less than a year after he shared his diagnosis with the world. He was 53.

Dane first donned his Grey’s Anatomy doctor’s coat 20 years ago to the day of his passing. He remained with the show for six seasons becoming a fan favorite.

With a career spanning three decades, he was introduced to a new audience in 2019 as he took on the role of closeted bisexual “Cal Jacobs” in HBO’s provocative drama Euphoria.

Dane spent the last year of his life becoming an advocate for more research and attention to ALS, a nervous system disease which affects the brain and spinal cord causing loss of muscle control.

There’s no cure for the affliction and its exact cause is unknown.

His family issued a statement to the public which read, in part:

“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

Dane sat for an interview with Netflix’s “Famous Last Words” with the understanding that it would only be shared with the world after he passed.

This is his heartbreaking last message to his daughters.

“I hope I’ve demonstrated that you can face anything, you can face the end of your days, you can face hell with dignity.

“Fight, girls, and hold your heads high. Billie and Georgia, you are my heart, you are my everything. Goodnight. I love you.”

Rest well, Eric Dane.
