More than 250 bills proposing restrictions on L.G.B.T.Q. people have been filed in chambers around the country, according to a list compiled by Erin Reed, an advocate for transgender rights and a journalist who tracks legislation.
In Texas, a bill would prohibit public funds from covering gender-transition treatments for state employees and Medicaid recipients of any age.
In South Carolina, a proposal would prevent people who transition from updating their birth certificates.
In Montana, a bill would require people in publicly owned facilities to use the bathroom of their sex identified at birth.
While most Democrats still support LGBTQ rights, some have begun to lean in favor of some limits. New Jersey state Sen. Paul Sarlo recently said in an interview with PBS, “Males should not be participating in women’s sports.” Read the full report here.
