Race car champion Sebastian Vettel was reprimanded for wearing a rainbow colored t-shirt in support of the LGBTQ community ahead of the national anthem at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday. Via Reuters:
The German was wearing a rainbow coloured t-shirt with the message “Same Love” on the grid ahead of the start of the race.
Three other drivers — Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Vettel’s Aston Martin team mate Lance Stroll — were also reprimanded for failing to remove their ‘We Race As One’ t-shirts in time for the national anthem.
Vettel and the other drivers said they had forgotten to take their t-shirts off because of the onset of rain. They were all found to be in breach of Article 12.2.1.i) of the FIA International Sporting Code and given non-driving reprimands.

Teams are allowed to wear the shirts, but are apparently required to remove them prior to the national anthem being played. According to The Guardian, Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton wrote in a since-deleted post on Instagram, “Super proud of this guy. There is no rule that says what color shirt you can wear and supporting the LGBTQ+ community is not repremandable [sic]. This is bs. Well done, Seb. I’ll join you next time with the same shirt.” https://twitter.com/BestForBritain/status/1422573096725266434 https://twitter.com/RacingPrideHQ/status/1422159971920367619
