Final Poll: Becerra Leads California Governor’s Race

With the California primary just three days away, the final poll from Emerson College Polling shows Democrat Xavier Becerra – former California Attorney General and U.S. congressman – leading the pack in the governor’s race with 28%.

Democrat and billionaire hedge fund guy Tom Steyer garners 22% and former Fox News commentator Republican Steven Hilton pulled 21%.

Further down the ranking, 12 % showed support for Republican Chad Bianco, while Dems Katie Porter and Matt Mahan pulled 5% support.

From Emerson Polling:

“Xavier Becerra maintains frontrunner status in the final Emerson poll ahead of Tuesday’s primary, while Tom Steyer and Steve Hilton both have paths to advance to the November general election,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said.

“If Chad Bianco’s support erodes by Election Day, Hilton is positioned to benefit. Steyer’s path to the runoff depends on mobilizing younger voters while limiting further gains by Becerra, whose growing coalition could siphon support from Steyer.”

Another poll published by the LA Times earlier this week showed Becerra leading with 25% support followed by Hilton at 21% and Steyer with 19% support.

California holds what’s known as a “jungle primary” with all candidates running against each other and the top two advance to the general election in the fall regardless of political party.

My guess is we’ll see Bacerra and Hilton face off this fall. Becerra, in my humble opinion, is the right man for the job.
