Mitt Romney: “Donald Trump Is A Phony And A Fraud”
In a stunning speech, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney labeled Donald Trump a fake, a phony, a fraud who would make the United States poorer and less safe.
Romney also said of Trump, “His promises are as worthless as a degree from (now defunct) Trump University.”
He went on to attack Trump business expertise by pointing to his failed companies, “Whatever happened to Trump Airlines, Trump University, Trump magazine, Trump vodka, Trump Steaks, Trump mortgage?”
Romney called for Republicans to support the other three GOP nominees still in the hunt – Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
It’s worth noting that in 2012, Romney sought and received Donald Trump’s endorsement for president.
The 2008 Republican presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain, issued a statement echoing Romney: “I share the concerns about Donald Trump that my friend and former Republican nominee Mitt Romney described in his speech.”
“I would also echo the many concerns about Mr. Trump’s uninformed and indeed dangerous statements on national security issues that have been raised by 65 Republican defense and foreign policy leaders,” continued McCain.
UPDATE – Other GOP presidential nominees chimed in after the speech:
Well said, @MittRomney. -John pic.twitter.com/pTwmBTaeAo— John Kasich (@JohnKasich) March 3, 2016
The Christian Post: “Donald Trump Is A Scam”
The editors of The Christian Post, who have never taken a position on a political candidate, have published an op-ed unequivocally denouncing Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
Here’s just part of the essay:
We the senior editors of The Christian Post encourage our readers to back away from Donald Trump.
As the most popular evangelical news website in the United States and the world, we feel compelled by our moral responsibility to our readers to make clear that Donald Trump does not represent the interests of evangelicals and would be a dangerous leader for our country.
Trump claims to be a Christian, yet says he has never asked for forgiveness.
While God, in His wondrous creativity, has drawn people to Himself through the saving grace of Jesus Christ in many different ways, there are certain non-negotiable actions needed to become a Christian: One must repent of their sins and follow Christ as Lord and Savior. Trump doesn’t talk this way, even when urged to.
Further, his words and actions do not demonstrate the “fruit of the spirit.”
Trump is a misogynist and philanderer. He demeans women and minorities. His preferred forms of communication are insults, obscenities and untruths. While Christians have been guilty of all of these, we, unlike Trump, acknowledge our sins, ask for forgiveness and seek restitution with the aid of the Holy Spirit and our community of believers.
On Sunday, Trump’s apparent reluctance to disavow David Duke until late in the day was extremely distasteful. The Ku Klux Klan is an evil, unholy movement representing the worst of America. Anyone who will not immediately denounce their support is unfit to be president.
Trump claims he will “protect Christians.” We already have a Protector, and He is not Trump.
The op-ed goes on to note Trump’s many controversies and position flip-flops over the years.
Strong words, but will this change the trajectory of the race?
News Round-Up: March 2, 2016
Some news stories you may have missed:
• According to PornHub’s recent statistics, America really likes searching for “lesbian” and “step-sister” porn. Oh – and “step-mom” is big in Alaska!
• Judge Jane Kelly of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals (near unanimous Senate approval three years ago) is being vetted for possible SCOTUS nomination.
• Bernie Sanders supporters are so uber-mad at progressive hero Sen. Elizabeth Warren for not endorsing Sanders that they’ve begun attacking her online.

Study: More LGBTs Living In Red States Than A Decade Ago
ConsumerAffairs.com worked with data from Gallup and the Census Bureau to create this interactive map showing the migration of LGBTs to red states over the past decade.
Surprised? I was. And then, I wasn’t.
Here’s just a bit of what ConsumerAffairs found:
• Salt Lake City saw the biggest increase in the size of its LGBT community as a portion of the total population, moving from 39th place in 1993 to 7th as of 2014 (the most recent available data).
• Of the 20 cities that saw a positive change in their ranking, 11 were in traditionally red states including Virginia, Kentucky, Louisiana and Texas.
• Traditionally LGBT-friendly cities like Minneapolis, San Diego and New York saw a drop in their national rankings.
I’m of a mind to think that as we’ve become more visible, and our families and friends have become more accepting, LGBTs are not feeling the pressure to live in the cities we’ve previously associated with being safe for gay families.
Plus, we’ve seen more and more representation in local governments by LGBTs. Salt Lake City in Utah recently elected it’s first openly lesbian mayor – if that isn’t progress, what is?
RuPaul Explains The Difference Betweens Drag Queens And Trangender People
The fab RuPaul dropped by The Real on Fox to promote the 8th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” (beginning March 7 on LOGO), and along the way was asked to explain the difference between being a “drag queen” and being “transgender.”
Said the wise and wonderful Ru:
“Well, drag is really making fun of identity.
“We are shape-shifters. We’re like, ‘OK, today, I’m this. Now, I’m a cowboy. Now, I’m this.’ That’s what drag is about.
“Transgender [people] take identity very, very seriously, in that their identity is who they are.
“But you know, I come from the school of you know, I’ll do whatever I want to do at any time and change and whatever.”
I’ve explained the difference to folks this way: drag is about performance; transgender is about how some folks view their gender identity.
Is Chris Christie Comfortable Being “The Man Behind Trump?”
Easily the most uncomfortable scene from last night’s Super Tuesday was watching New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stand behind Donald Trump at his press event for what seemed like an eternity.
Christie’s face and eyes seemed to tell their own story as he watched from behind the Trumpster. You have to wonder if Christie has reconsidered the price he paid by endorsing Trump.
From CNN:
The New Jersey governor, who endorsed Trump on Friday, introduced the real estate mogul during a Super Tuesday press conference. But as Trump began speaking, people couldn’t stop talking about the look on Christie’s face.
It’s been a bumpy road for Christie ever since he endorsed Trump last week. Seconds after Christie finished proclaiming his support, Trump ordered him to “get on the plane and go home,” an awkward exchange that was caught on camera and quickly spread around the Internet.
Alexandra Petra of the Washington Post may have captured it best when she wrote about Christie’s “Wordless Screaming.”
In related Christie news, 6 New Jersey newspapers have publicly called for Christie to resign as governor.
so has anyone checked to see if Christie was blinking in Morse code last night?— Tom Tomorrow (@tomtomorrow) March 2, 2016

CNN: Discussion Of Race Relations Gets Tense Between Van Jones & Jeffrey Lord
I was watching CNN last night when this really powerful discussion occurred between former Obama staffer Van Jones and former Reagan staffer/Donald Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord about race, the Ku Klux Klan and the Democratic Party.
The exchange must have gone on for at least ten minutes, at times getting very heated.
Here’s just an excerpt via the Washington Post:
Though Jones allowed that pundits had not “respected” Trump voters, he said that “there is a dark underside here…. He is whipping up and tapping into and pushing buttons that are very, very frightening to me and frightening to a lot of people.” He added: When Trump, who declined to denounce the KKK in an interview Sunday before doing so on Twitter, is “playing funny with the Klan, that is not cool” — especially given the candidate’s outspoken position on Muslim extremists.
“I know this man, when he gets passionate about terrorism,” Jones said of Trump. “I know how he talks about terrorism. The Klan is a terrorist organization.”
Lord, citing the KKK’s historic connection with the Democratic Party, turned up the temperature. “A leftist terrorist organization,” he said.
Jones started to look a little angry.
“We’re not going to play that game,” Jones said.
Lord: “We are going to understand history.”
Jones: “No, you need to take a serious look at the fact that this man is playing fast and loose…. When you talk about terrorism, he gets passionate. He says, ‘No, this is wrong.’ But when you talk about the Klan, ‘Oh, I don’t know, I don’t know.’”
Texas: Newly-Elected Travis County Republican Chairman Goes Wild On Twitter
Just when you think politics can’t get any stranger, along comes the story of Texas Republican Robert Morrow.
Morrow was elected chairman of the Travis County Republican Party with 54 percent of the vote.
His vice-chair – GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak – tweeted shortly after Morrow’s win that he was “exploring” options to remove him before he takes over that position in June:
Why? Because Morrow is apparently a wild man on the Twitter.
Check out some of these tweets from just the past 24 hours about the Clintons, the Bush family and more:
Oh – and then there was this a few months ago. He’s a classy dude, no?
