Massachusetts State Senate Wannabe: I’ll Stop Using “Faggot” If It Implies Hatred

Republican Ted Busiek, currently running for Massachusetts state senate, is calling himself an ally of coarse language and an opponent of the LGBT community in the aftermath of a Twitter scuffle that’s landed him in hot water.

In a tweet last week, Busiek used the word “faggot” in referring to former Rep. George Miller of California, someone he now admits he doesn’t know very much about:

Busiek doubled down on the use of the word “faggots” today in a blog post saying he only meant it to mean “obnoxious.”

Busiek goes on, however, to declare himself an “opponent” of the LGBT community.

“If we’re talking about private citizens, I don’t really ‘feel’ towards them in any way. I don’t reckon that it’s my business to. In a meritocratic world, people will rise or fall on a more substantial basis than what they do in their bedrooms. However, if by ‘LGBT community’ we mean an organized political advocacy group, then I’ll declare myself an opponent. That ‘LGBT community’ has been a socially–destructive disaster.”

The comments on Busiek’s blog post are quite the read.

Here’s a report from a Massachusetts local Fox affiliate:

Sen. Bob Corker Pulls His Name From Trump’s VP Consideration

Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee has withdrawn his name from consideration as Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2016 White House race.

Micah Johnson, a spokesman for the senator, confirmed that Coker told The Washington Post, “There are people far more suited for being a candidate for vice president, and I think I’m far more suited for other types of things.”

Corker is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee which surely had a lot to do with Trump’s interest in Corker. Trump’s lack of depth in foreign policy has been one of his glaring weaknesses during the presidential race.

Corker appeared with Trump at a campaign event in North Carolina on Tuesday.

In related news, freshman GOP Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa seems to have also pulled out of contention for the veep spot telling Politico, “I made that very clear to him that I’m focused on Iowa. I feel that I have a lot more to do in the United States Senate. And Iowa is where my heart is.”

Heartbreaking: Son Of Alton Sterling Breaks Down As Family Speaks Out On Police Shooting

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced a civil rights investigation into the death of 37 year old Alton Sterling, who was shot multiple times by police during an incident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Graphic video shot via cellphone, which appears to show Sterling being tackled and shot by two police officers, has gone viral within hours.

Sterling’s death sparked protests against police brutality in Baton Rouge, and family members and the local NAACP branch called for an independent review outside of the city’s police department.

“I have full confidence that this matter will be investigated thoroughly, impartially and professionally,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said at a news conference Wednesday.

At a press conference Wednesday morning, Gov. John Bel Edwards said, “I have full confidence that this matter will be investigated thoroughly.”

From NBC News:

Baton Rouge police said uniformed officers responded to an anonymous call after midnight Tuesday about a black male in a red shirt who was selling CDs and had reportedly threatened the caller with a gun.
“”The video footage released today of the shooting of Alton Sterling … was deeply troubling.””

The officers, both of whom are white, “made contact” with the 5-foot-11 Sterling in the parking lot of the Triple S Food Mart, and an altercation ensued, police said in a statement.

“Sterling was shot during the altercation and died at the scene,” the statement said.

Two officers have been placed on administrative leave “per standard procedure,” it added, saying the investigation was ongoing.

In a heartbreaking moment, Sterling’s son broke down sobbing as his family made a public statement to the press today.

Gretchen Carlson Files Sexual Harassment Suit Against Fox News Chief Roger Ailes

Ever wonder why longtime Fox News host Gretchen Carlson disappeared from the right-leaning news channel’s lineup?

This might be a clue: Variety is reporting that Carlson has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the network’s top executive, Roger Ailes.

According to the filing, Ailes made unwanted sexual advances to Carlson, and when she didn’t return the interest she found herself out of a job.

A Fox News Channel spokesperson could not be reached for immediate comment.

I’ll be curious to see if this allegation could lead to other women coming forward a la Bill Cosby?

We shall see…

House Republicans Ask FBI Director To Defend Decision To Not Charge Hillary Clinton

Because the House Republicans haven’t wasted enough time and money chasing empty dreams of bringing Hillary Clinton down.

In the wake of the FBI’s recommendation to not charge former Secretary of State over her use of a private email server, Rep, Jason Chaffetz, current chair of the House Oversight Committee, has summoned FBI Director James Comey to the hill to testify (read that – “defend”) the decision.

Less than a day after the FBI’s announcement, Chaffetz has set a hearing for Thursday at 10 a.m. ET, where Comey will testify before the committee regarding the Bureau’s investigation.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan foreshadowed such an event Tuesday night when speaking to Fox News saying, “There are a lot of unanswered questions here.”

Clearly, the Republicans are disappointed in the loss of attack fodder for the next four months of the presidential election, and are choosing to draw the issue out in the headlines as long as possible.

It’s worth noting that James Comey is a long-time Republican with no political allegiance to Hillary Clinton. So, the idea that Hillary somehow curried private favor with the FBI Director is nonsense.
