Democrat Hillary Clinton previews her upcoming speech today on Donald Trump’s ties to the “Alt-Right” fringe of the conservative spectrum.
Per the video, “the alt-right is the sort of ‘dressed up in suits’ version of the Neo-Nazi and white supremacist movements.”
Trump’s new campaign CEO, Steve Bannon, who has never run a presidential campaign, runs Breitbart News – one of the leading sources for “alt-right” news.
There’s a reason the most hateful fringe of the right wing is supporting Donald Trump.https://t.co/AqB3DM2m0N
After launching his campaign with an attack on undocumented immigrants, and continuing on for over a year promising his supporters he will deport 11 million of them through using a “deportation force,” Donald Trump finally acknowledges that the entire concept was flawed, ruthless and inhumane.
“Now, everybody agrees we get the bad ones out,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “But when I go through and I meet thousands and thousands of people on this subject, and I’ve had very strong people come up to me, really great, great people come up to me, and they’ve said, ‘Mr. Trump, I love you, but to take a person who’s been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it’s so tough, Mr. Trump.’ I have it all the time! It’s a very, very hard thing.”
Still, Trump said there would be “no amnesty” for undocumented immigrants, even if they have committed no crimes.
“No citizenship,” Trump said. “Let me go a step further — they’ll pay back taxes, they have to pay taxes, there’s no amnesty, as such, there’s no amnesty, but we work with them.”
Really? After telling the country for a YEAR that “they gotta go,” now Trump says he’s “softening” on his ideas to cope with illegal immigration in a play for the Hispanic vote?
This is the definition of a classic “flip-flop.”
Or is he really not reaching for Latinos, but just wants to look a bit more palatable to Republican voters who were on the fence?
And the political discourse descends even further into the abyss.
While Republican Donald Trump has referred to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s “bigotry” in the past, he’s now gone full tilt boogie on the accusation last night during a rally in Jackson, Mississippi.
“Hillary Clinton is a bigot who sees people of color only as votes, not as human beings worthy of a better future,” he said. “She’s going to do nothing for African Americans. She’s going to do nothing for the Hispanics. She’s only going to take care of herself, her husband, her consultants, her donors. These are the people she cares about.”
Clinton responds to Trump labelling her a “bigot”
“She doesn’t care about you,” he said, addressing African American voters, who were not in the room to hear his pitch.
“You’ve had her policies. Democrats running some of the inner cities for 50, 70, 80 even over a hundred years. And look what you have right now. Poverty, no education, crime, you can’t walk down the street with your child,” Trump continued. “We’re going to fix it. Hillary Clinton has no remorse.”
While Jackson is predominantly black — nearly 80 percent of its residents are African American — the audience at Trump’s rally was predominantly white.
I keep wondering – if Trump wants to appeal to black voters, why doesn’t he go meet them face to face like in a predominately black church or school or community? How about some honest to go retail politicking?
Trump has brought this campaign season to so many all time lows. #Sad
“Liberal Redneck” Trae Crowder talks on the inspiration for the current “22 for 22” pushup challenge: the sad state of affairs for our military vets that, on average, 22 veterans commit suicide each day because they lack the resources to deal with PTSD and more after serving our country.
“First, I’d like someone to explain how it takes an average of three to eight weeks for a vet to get into a VA doctor, but we can fly a robot rocket ship up a camel’s asshole from the other side of the god-damn planet in a matter of minutes.”
Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday, who shot to fame in 1981 for her scorched earth performance as “Effie White” in the original Broadway company of Dreamgirls will return to the Great White Way in the celebrated Broadway revival of The Color Purple beginning October 4th.
Taking over the role of “Shug Avery” from Heather Headley, this engagement marks Holliday’s first return to Broadway since a two month run as “Matron ‘Mama’ Morton” in the long-running revival of Chicago the Musical in 2001.
“I was deeply moved by this truly uplifting production of The Color Purple and I am highly honored and absolutely thrilled to be joining this extraordinary cast,” said Holliday in a statement. “Nothing compares to performing before a Broadway audience and I can’t wait to return to the Broadway stage, where I started my career over 35 years ago.”
Director John Doyle added, “There is a rich and significant legacy to the line of women who have been part of The Color Purple, and I am very honored and excited to work with another major actress as she assumes one of its iconic roles. I am very taken with Ms. Holliday’s approach to the character of Shug and I look forward to sharing how her integrity and experience will enrich this production of The Color Purple.”
The Houston-born Holliday made her Broadway debut at age 19 in Vinnette Carroll’s 1980 gospel musical Your Arms Too Short To Box With God as a featured soloist. After Dreamgirls she returned to Broadway just twice as replacement Teen Angel in the 1994 revival of Grease, and as a replacement Matron “Mama” Morton in the long-running revival of Chicago for two months in 2001. This is her first return to Broadway since then.
I recently saw Holliday at the terrific 35th anniversary concert of Dreamgirls in Los Angeles where she appeared for the first time in over three decades with co-stars Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine. I can attest that Holliday is still a powerful force to be reckoned with onstage.
Us Weekly is reporting that U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte will appear in as a contestant in season 23 of Dancing With the Stars.
This comes, of course, in the aftermath of his Rio robbery scandal, which he eventually tearfully admitted was “overexaggerated” regarding being robbed at gunpoint.
“Doing DWTS will be great for Ryan’s image!” an insider tells Us Weekly. “He will be able to show America that he’s a good guy who made a mistake. He’s still an Olympic champion! He will be great on the show.”
The cast of celebrities for the upcoming season of the ABC dancing competition has not yet been announced and reps for the show never comment on casting rumors, but this season will likely include a few Olympic athletes.
You have to wonder if this was a quick PR move or if it was in the works before the Olympics.
This new campaign spot from Hillary Clinton underscores one of the points I’ve made throughout the past year.
If Donald Trump is so pro-USA, why didn’t he have his products made in the USA? Why outsource to 12 other countries?
And we’re supposed to believe that now he’s a candidate for president his outlook is different? SRSLY.
Text of the spot:
“This factory has been here since 1883. We have over 60 people here making shirts labeled ‘Made in America,’ but Donald Trump’s brand of shirts come from China, his suits from Mexico, his coats from India. Trump’s products have been made in 12 other countries because he says there’s no place in America that he can make them. Well there is. You know Donald Trump says he’ll make America great again while he’s taking the shirts right off our backs.”
Reporters from the Associated Press recently released an article that insinuates Hillary Clinton, during her time as Secretary of State, gave an inordinate amount of time in terms of meetings or phone calls, to Clinton Foundation donors.
Donald Trump is calling the entire escapade a “pay for play” scam.
Starting with a lead that “85 of 154 people who met or had phone conversations with Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state donated or pledged commitments to her family charity.”
Well, what isn’t explained very well in all that is the figure excludes all meetings with any government employees, American or otherwise. And that’s a huge amount of her meetings/phone calls.
Plus, the AP analysis only covered the first half of Clinton’s time as SOS.
“Well, because they took a small sliver of her tenure as secretary of state, less than half the time, less than a fraction of the meetings, fewer than I think 3 percent, the number they’ve looked at of all the meetings,” chief strategist Joel Benenson told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on “New Day.” “This is a woman who met with over 17,000 world leaders, countless other government officials, public officials in the United States. And they’ve looked at 185 meetings and tried to draw a conclusion from that.”
Publication bias is the name of a well-known but hard to solve problem in academic research. A paper with a striking new finding is much more likely to be accepted at a top journal than a paper that says, “I investigated an interesting hypothesis, but it turned out to be wrong.” This means that spurious findings — statistical coincidences and such — make it into the published literature, while boring null results don’t. This gives a distorted picture of reality simply because everyone is trying to be interesting.
Similarly, the AP’s basic reporting project here seems like it was worth a shot and probably also fairly time-consuming. But it did not come up with anything. Clinton tried to help a Nobel Prize winner. She went to the Kennedy Center Honors. She had a meeting with the head of the charitable arm of MAC Cosmetics about a State Department charitable initiative.
There’s just nothing here. That’s the story. Braun and Sullivan looked into it, and as best they can tell, she’s clean.
I have to say with all the calls to “shut down the Clinton Foundation,” I have to ask, “why?”
This foundation takes money from rich people to help poor people. Gee, what a terrible idea (read that dripping with sarcasm).
The Clinton Foundation is responsible for things like purchasing HIV drugs for patients in Africa and delivering them so governments there won’t steal it. The Foundation literally keeps people alive.
Or, said another way, many, many people would die if the Foundation were to be shut down immediately. Who would keep those folks meds coming? What would happen to them.
At the end of the day, the story is a secretary of state of the U.S. met with important people – which is basically her job.
Most importantly, while attempting to insinuate a lot of “possible” unethical behavior, the story found none.
No “pay for play,” no favors granted – no nothing.
Not only did I meet and snap a pic with the VERY handsome DiMarco, but I interviewed him for The Randy Report and my online radio show – coming soon.
I have to say I’ve met a lot of celebs over the years, and most look like themselves in real life for the most part (versus their “prettier” TV or film selves).
However, Nyle exceeds all expectations. He really is this awesomely handsome. And very charming.
In addition to his current modeling career and upcoming gig at Chippendales, he’s launched The Nyle DiMarco Foundation. Nyle wants to work with parents and families to ensure Deaf children receive the same opportunities he did in terms of being able to learn American Sign Language and English. I was surprised to learn that out of the 70 million deaf people worldwide, only 2% has access to education in sign language.
Look for the interview here in the next day or so. I first have to recover from meeting him.
Regular readers of The Randy Report know I was a big supporter of Nyle during his triumphant DWTS run with Peta Murgatroyd, posting several times about him. You can see those posts here.
UPDATE: I aired my radio show interview. You can listen below.
