New Music: Idina Menzel “I See You”

Tony Award winner Idina Menzel drops the second single – “I See You” – from her upcoming album Idina.

Menzel stayed up late on September 4th to share a special live premiere of the song from a NYC rooftop via Facebook Live:

“Thanks for staying up late, wherever you are in the world…I just want to say thank you for being so supportive all these years,” she tells fans.

“We’re here at the Skylark Rooftop in the most beautiful city in the world. This is my hometown city. I’ve been working on this album — I’ve had a crazy couple of years. Some good stuff, some bad stuff, and I got in the studio and poured my heart out and used my music as a place to figure things out. It’s a really personal album,” the Wicked/Frozen star shares.

The album is currently on pre-sale on iTunes, and will be released on September 23.

Menzel is currently filming a television remake of the Bette Midler movie, Beaches.

Trump Campaign: Mexico Will Absolutely, Definitely, No-Way-Around-It Pay For “The Wall”

ABC News is reporting that the Trump campaign is holding firm on the promise that, if elected, Donald Trump will build a wall on the southern border of the U.S., and Mexico will absolutely, definitely, no-doubt-about-it pay for it.

Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said the Republican presidential candidate would deliver on his campaign promise to get Mexico to pay for a border wall and that his position has “never changed.”

“He will build that wall, and he has been consistent on that since day one of his candidacy; he will have Mexico pay for it,” Conway said on ABC’s “This Week.” “His position has never changed, on this side of the border or that side of the border.”

Donald Trump Draws A Half-House At Great Faith Ministries Church

Donald Trump loves to lambast news networks for not showing the size of his crowds at campaign rallies.

This is probably one view he wouldn’t want televised – from the back of the Great Faith Ministries church yesterday where he addressed a very small portion of the congregation.

Looks like the African-Americans in Detroit aren’t buying his “late to the game” appeal for votes.

Stephen Colbert Tracks Down Trump’s “Top Cop”

Donald Trump recently told Bill O’Reilly on Fox News that he had spoken to a “top cop” in Chicago who said he could solve all crime if the police were allowed to get “tougher” with suspects.

The problem is no one knows who this “top cop” might be.

So, host Stephen Colbert went looking for this “top cop.”
Late Show

You see where this is going, right?

RawStory has the recap:

“All I know is this,” Trump claimed. “I went to a top police officer in Chicago, who is not the police chief, and I could see by the way he was dealing with his people, he was a rough, tough guy, they respected him greatly.”

“We here at the Late Show, we’ve done a little digging, and that cop is here tonight,” Colbert began before introducing “Officer Rod Johnson.”

Colbert asked ‘Officer Johnson” what specifically he told Trump.

“I told him there are some naughty people out there who need to be in cuffs,’ Johnson replied, before identifying himself as a “rough tough cop.”

Radio Show: Colin Kaepernick & The National Anthem

Activist Aaron Baldwin joined me last night to discuss the recent controversy surrounding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’ decision to not stand during the singing of the national anthem during football games.

After last Friday’s pre-season game where Kaepernick remained seated during the anthem, he told reporters, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Folks across the country called Kaepernick out for being “unpatriotic.” On social media, there were calls for Kaepernick to leave the country if he’s not happy here. Others called him a wealthy athlete who is disconnected from average America.

One the other side of the debate, however, there are lots of folks who say Kaepernick has a right to free speech. And a hashtag – #VeteransForKaepernick – has been trending on Twitter lately.

Thursday night, during the 49ers game with the San Diego Chargers, he took a knee with team mate Eric Reid during the national anthem. After that game, he announced he will be donating $1 million to communities of need.

Listen below as Aaron and I look at how this is being played out between sports fans across the country.

Trump Surrogate Admits To Embellishing College And Military Experience

You’ll recall Pastor Mark Burns, who last week posted a controversial cartoon of Hillary Clinton in blackface. When asked about it, he backpedaled apologizing for the method but not the message.

Today, Burns in more hot water as it’s become apparent that he lied about some of his personal/professional accomplishments.

In an interview with CNN’s Victor Blackwell, he became combative and eventually walked off the set when asked about these embellishments.

From CNN:

South Carolina preacher Mark Burns, who regularly introduces Trump at his campaign events, had listed on his church’s website that he had a Bachelor of Science degree and served six years in the Army Reserve.

Burns, however, was never in the Army Reserve. He was in the South Carolina National Guard, from which he was discharged in 2008, CNN found. As far as a Bachelor’s degree, North Greenville University told CNN he only attended the school for one semester. Burns admitted that he did not finish his degree when CNN asked him about it.

When CNN confronted Burns about the various professional and social exaggerations he had featured on his biography, Burns first said the page had “obviously” been either “manipulated or either hacked or added.”

Burns eventually took responsibility for the lies, but blamed his being “targeted” because he’s a black man who supports Donald Trump:

“As a young man starting my church in Greenville, South Carolina, I overstated several details of my biography because I was worried wouldn’t be taken seriously as a new pastor,” Burns said in a statement Friday, pre-butting the report. “This was wrong, I wasn’t truthful then and I have to take full responsibility for my actions. Since that time I should have taken steps to correct any misrepresentations of my background. We all make mistakes, and I hope that the measure of my character and the quality of my works speak for what kind of person I am.”

“I do also want to set the record straight about why this attack is happening — because I am a black man supporting Donald Trump for President,” he continued. “For too long, African-American votes have been taken for granted by Democratic politicians, and enough is enough Instead, I’m going to tell people that there is another option — an option that represents a position vision that will unify our country. That’s why I have and will continue to tirelessly support Mr. Trump.”

So, some may ask, why it this important? This is a pastor of a small church who’s a volunteer for the Trump campaign.

The issue here is that Donald Trump has campaigned on the idea that he will surround himself with “the best people.”

For months, Burns has acted as a campaign surrogate; he has introduced Trump at many campaign rallies; he spoke at Trump’s convention. He has represented the campaign.

Burns admitted to CNN that there was “no vetting” of him to participate in the campaign. No surveys, no background checks.

So, if Donald Trump is touting his ability to judge and select the people he will let represent him, what does his decision to let a man who misrepresented a lot of his accomplishments say about him if he were to become president?
