“Will & Grace” Explores The World Of Dating Younger Men

With the reboot of Will & Grace acknowledging the passage of time, it makes total sense that we would see both Will and Jack explore the idea of dating younger men.

And that’s exactly what we get.

In this clip from Thursday’s upcoming episode, titled “Who’s Your Daddy?,” both men are coping with the angst of not only younger paramours, but coping with their own ages.

Jack attempts various ways to look younger (incorporating some hilarious physical comedy) while Will wonders if it might be “creepy” that he’s getting amorous with a 23-year-old (played by Tony Award winner Ben Platt of Dear Evan Hansen fame).

“So what, they’re young and hot, and we’re old and not. Nothing else matters!” screams Jack. “We need this.”

Will & Grace airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Mississippi: New “Religious Freedom” Law Will Allow Broad Discrimination Against LGBTs

Beginning this Friday, a new “religious freedom” law will take effect allowing officials and service providers the legal right to deny services to LGBT folks based on religious beliefs.

From LocalMemphis.com:

House Bill 1523 will allow anyone from doctors to store owners to deny service for LGBT people based on individual religious beliefs.

Critics of the law call it the nation’s most sweeping anti-LGBT law, while supporters say it protects their faith based convictions.

Those in opposition said they’re contemplating their next legal step in the coming days.

The legislation passed in the Mississippi General Assembly last year, and was signed by Governor Phil Bryant, but faced legal challenges since had yet to take effect.

That’s expected to change this week after a three-judge panel ruled the plaintiffs who sued in opposition to HB 1523 didn’t have the standing challenge the law.

HB 1523 will protect three types of religious beliefs as justification to deny service to LGBT individuals in Mississippi including the conviction that marriage is between one man and one woman.

Hillary Clinton Responds To Deadly Las Vegas Shooting

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton tweeted her thoughts about last night’s deadly shooting in Las Vegas, and expressed her concerns regarding if the shooter had had a silencer.

Las Vegas, we are grieving with you—the victims, those who lost loved ones, the responders, & all affected by this cold-blooded massacre. The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots. Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get. Our grief isn’t enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again.

Watching the videos of the event, the only thing that alerted folks that anything was happening was the sound of the rifle popping off shots. If the shooter had a silencer people would have just started dropping with those around them having no clue.

Chilling.

Las Vegas: More Than 50 Dead, Over 400 Injured In Mandalay Bay Shooting

Stephen Paddock

From the New York Times:

A gunman on a high floor of a Las Vegas hotel rained a rapid-fire barrage on a huge outdoor concert festival on Sunday night, killing more than 50 people, injuring hundreds of others, and sending thousands of terrified survivors fleeing for cover, in one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.

Online video of the attack near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino showed the singer Jason Aldean performing outside at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a three-day country music event, interrupted by the sound of automatic gunfire. The music stopped, and as victims fell, bleeding, concertgoers screamed, ducked for cover, or ran.

“Get down,” one shouted. “Stay down,” screamed another.

“Currently the Clark County Fire Department is estimating the injuries to be well over 400” Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said on Monday morning. One of those killed was an off-duty Las Vegas police officer, the department said.

He said there were about 22,000 people at the concert.

SWAT units swarmed the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay, closing in on the source of the shooting, a 32nd-floor room where they found the gunman, with “in excess of 10 rifles,” the sheriff said. “We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry.”

The first reports of the shooting came at 10:08 p.m. local time, and officers overheard on police radio reported being pinned down by gunfire. Shortly before midnight the Las Vegas police reported that “one suspect is down,” and soon after the police said they did not believe there were any more active gunmen.

The sheriff identified the gunman as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., who had no significant prior criminal history.

Australia: Macklemore Rocks The NRL Finals With Pro-LGBT Anthem “Same Love”

Macklemore performs at 2017 NRL grand final

Macklemore performed his pro-LGBT mega-hit “Same Love” at the National Rugby League grand final this weekend.

With Mary Lambert on vocals, Macklemore lifted the place up. It’s heartening to see the vast majority of comments on Twitter are positive.

Macklemore’s message comes at a timely moment for the folks down under. Australia is currently in the middle of a “vote by mail” survey on support for marriage equality. Polls show overwhelming support but we’ve learned to not take anything for granted.

Results of the survey will be released in November.

Released in 2012, “Same Love” returned to the top of iTunes Australia charts thanks to the announcement of Macklemore’s pre-game show. The hip-hop artist has pledged the recent profits will go to pro-marriage equality campaigns in Oz.

Watch the performance below.

By the way, the Melbourne Storm beat the NQ Cowboys 34-6.

Since we’re talking Australian rugby, we’ve got to see some rugby players, right?

Trump To Tillerson: Don’t Waste Your Time With North Korea

A day after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters the United States currently has direct lines of communication with North Korea attempting to negotiate regarding the country’s missile programs, Donald Trump tweeted that the effort was a waste of time.

“I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man. Save your energy Rex, we’ll do what has to be done.”

Has anyone told Trump these kinds of negotiations are exactly what a secretary of state does?

I’ve never seen a president undercut his own secretary of state in such a public manner.

Marriage Equality Comes To Germany

Marriage ceremonies between same-sex couples began today in Germany after a June vote of 393-226 in Parliament legalized same-sex marriage.

German’s had allowed civil unions since 2001, but the change in marriage laws now gives same-sex couples full and equal rights as Germany becomes the 15th European country to embrace marriage equality.

From the New York Times:

Cheers rang out in the City Hall of Berlin’s Schöneberg district on Sunday as two men, who met 38 years ago, when the German capital was a divided city, became the country’s first same-sex couple to legally marry.

The couple, Bodo Mende, 60, and Karl Kreile, 59, were wed in a civil ceremony, surrounded by a crush of photographers and television cameras eager to capture the historic moment.

“This is an emotional moment with great symbolism,” Mr. Kreile told reporters before the event. “The transition to the term ‘marriage’ shows that the German state recognizes us as real equals.”

Across the country, city halls that are normally closed on the weekend opened their doors to allow marriages on the first day the law took effect. Dozens of couples were expected to exchange vows in Berlin, as well as in Cologne, Hamburg, Hanover and Kiel on Sunday and the days beyond.

Among those exchanging vows on Sunday was Volker Beck, a member of the Greens party and a former lawmaker who fought for decades for marriage equality.

Months after he was showered with confetti on the floor of Parliament as the law passed, he celebrated his marriage to Adrian Petkov under shiny gold balloons spelling out “Love.”
