New Music: Loote “Out Of My Head”

New York-based pop duo comprising of Emma Lov and Jackson Foote are back with their new single “Out of My Head.”

Written and produced by Emma and Jackson, this song is the first track to feature vocals by both as well.

Loote describes it as “an emotional roller coaster. It’s about being stuck and weird and feeling like you can’t get out of your own crazy. And it’s an ode to that one person or thing you can rely on; you like that they get you out of that shit. The chorus is this celebratory moment that’s kind of a ‘thank you’ to them.”

I like. It’s definitely mainstream pop, and the song is playful and has a great build without losing it’s sense of self.

Coming from a singer-songwriter background, Emma finds pop alchemy with Jackson’s production technique in fresh and unexpected ways.

Jackson describes the collaboration as “a combination of two personalities and where they meet in the middle. We’re different in a lot of ways, and you can hear that in our music, but in a lot of ways we’re also very similar and you can pick up on that too.”

Donald Trump Attacks Mayor Of San Juan From A Luxury Golf Course

Donald Trump

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, the people of Puerto Rico are facing terrible devastation. We’ve seen that all week on the news.

But on Friday, Carmen Yulin Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, had had enough. In a passionate plea, she called out to anyone who could possibly help Puerto Rico.

“We are dying here,” Cruz said at a press conference. “I cannot fathom the thought that the greatest nation in the world cannot figure out the logistics for a small island of 100 miles by 35 miles. So, mayday, we are in trouble.”

And then this morning, from a luxury golf club in New Jersey, Donald Trump attacked the mayor for trying to help her people. He added that “fake news” outlets are trying to “disparage” the first responders in Puerto Rico.

It’s not surprising that Trump attacked the mayor. She’s challenged him, she’s a woman and a Hispanic. We know his track record in these situations.

Cruz pleads for help, “We are dying,” and Trump responds with “poor leadership” and “nasty.”

I also think it’s worth noting that Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory inhabited by primarily Hispanic people, has no electoral votes. On the other hand, Texas and Florida, which commanded Trump’s attention have lots of electoral votes and are primarily white citizens. You do the math.

The Twitterverse responded:

Mayor Of San Juan: This Is Not “A Good-News Story”

The Trump administration had its own “You’re doing a heckuva job, Brownie” moment when the acting Homeland Security Secretary told the media the situation in Puerto Rico is “a good-news story.”

From CNN:

The mayor of Puerto Rico’s capital sharply criticized a senior Trump administration official Friday for calling the government’s disaster response “a good-news story,” comments that came amid mounting criticism of the federal reaction to the disaster here.

Trump administration officials have defended the federal effort, with acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke telling reporters outside the White House on Thursday that the relief effort “is proceeding very well considering the devastation that took place.” She called the federal response “a good-news story in terms of our ability to reach people and the limited number of deaths that have taken place in such a devastating hurricane.”

After watching Duke’s comments, San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz appeared taken aback during an interview on CNN, calling the remarks “irresponsible” and saying they upset and frustrated her.

“Maybe from where she’s standing, it’s a good-news story,” Cruz said. “When you’re drinking from a creek, it’s not a good-news story. When you don’t have food for a baby, it’s not a good-news story.”

You really have to wonder if Donald Trump didn’t figure out until this week that Puerto Rico is part of the United States. He was all gung-ho to help Texas and Florida after their recent hurricane devastation.

Trump has said there are difficulties in helping Puerto Rico because Puerto Rico an “island surrounded by water…big water…ocean water.”

Hawaii needs to really worry if anything catastrophic hits them cause, you know, “big water, ocean water.”

Music Video: Maroon 5 “What Lovers Do” Featuring SZA

Three-time Grammy Award winners Maroon 5 drop their latest music video, “What Lovers Do” featuring SZA.

Following a long tradition of visually impressive videos, the uber-stylized clip chronicles a “larger than life” on-screen romance than spans frolicking in a forest to swimming with dolphins to gameplay in Las Vegas, and an homage to King Kong.

Definitely a bouncy, fun, imaginative romp.

Health And Human Services Secretary Tom Price Resigns Over TravelGate

Tom Price

Saying he regrets that “recent events have created a distraction” for the Trump administration, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price offered his letter of resignation

The “events” that Price references are, of course, the nearly $1 million of taxpayer money in private chartered and military plane flights Price traveled by on government business.

Pretty swampity, swamp swamp if you ask me.

From CNN:

Politico first reported Price’s use of charter jets for official business last week and found that the secretary has traveled on charter flights at least 24 times since May, citing people familiar with his travel plans and a review of HHS documents.

Charter plane operators estimated 24 flights would have cost $400,000, Politico reported. Commercial trips would have cost thousands of dollars less. The Health and Human Services inspector general is reviewing whether the means of travel was appropriate.

Later, it was revealed that Price also took US military aircraft on two trips abroad, bringing the total cost of his non-commercial travel to more than $1 million. The military flights were approved by the White House.

On Thursday, Price offered to write a personal check to cover his private charter travel saying, “The taxpayers won’t pay a dime for my seat on those planes.”

But the optics worsened when it was revealed he planned to write a check for only $51,887.31, a miniscule percentage of the total cost of the private flights.

According to reports, Donald Trump was angered not only by the optics of the transgression, but also for appearing to overshadow the rollout of Trump’s tax reform proposal.

“Will & Grace” Dominates Ratings With Return To Network TV

Returning with wit and grace, iconic 90s sitcom Will & Grace returned to NBC last night.

The original stars – fearsome foursome Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally – deftly proved the chemistry last seen 11 years ago still remains, as does as their audience.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

The first episode of what will be at least two more seasons of the landmark Peacock sitcom averaged a 2.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 10 million viewers. That puts it atop all other TV efforts for the night — save CBS’ Thursday Night Football. It also ranked as one of the top entertainment programs of Premiere Week, trailing only The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon and This Is Us.

Jumping right into the deep end, last night’s episode showed the writers have no problem addressing the “orange Cheeto in the room,” taking us all on a field trip to the White House.

Grace gets a gig redecorating the Oval Office, Will flirts with a conservative congressman, Jack gets a smooch from a beefy Secret Service agent (hunky Kyle Bornheimer) and Karen kept the boozy clever quips coming.

All in all, it felt like comfort food to have the fab four back.

Good stuff.

NYC: High School Student Bullied For Sexual Orientation Turns On Tormentors Killing One, Injuring Second

Abel Cedeno (center)

A Wednesday morning history class in the Bronx turned deadly as 18-year-old Abel Cedeno, who has been reportedly bullied regarding his perceived sexual orientation for weeks, snapped and stabbed two of his tormentors.

From the New York Daily News:

Horrified classmates howled in disbelief as Cedeno flew into a homicidal fury, plunging the serrated stainless steel blade into the chests of Matthew McCree, 15, and Ariane Laboy, 16.

The knife-wielding Cedeno just “went crazy,” said witness Jomarlyn Colon, 16. “Everybody just stood back. A few of them were holding Matthew. A few of them were holding towels on the wound.

“All the kids were crying and screaming.”

McCree, who started the deadly confrontation by flicking a pencil at Cedeno, was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital after the 10:50 a.m. stabbing spree in a fifth-floor classroom, cops said.

Laboy was in critical condition at the same hospital after he was slashed while coming to McCree’s defense.

Cedeno was charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

This marks the first murder to take place inside a New York City school since 1993.
