Irony Of The Day: Trump Laments “Shattered Lives” From False Allegations

Donald Trump took to Twitter Saturday morning to defend two White House staffers who resigned due to allegations of domestic abuse.

Time and again Donald Trump finds a way to side with men accused of bad behavior but he never has a word for the victims.

From The New York Times:

In a Twitter post, Mr. Trump appeared to raise doubts about the entire #MeToo movement, a day after he had offered sympathy for a former aide accused of spousal abuse.

“Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation,” the president wrote on Twitter, adding: “There is no recovery for someone falsely accused – life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?”

On Friday, the president had jumped into the controversy over the former aide, Rob Porter, who is accused by two former wives of physical and emotional abuse, defending him and offering no denunciation even for the idea of assaulting women. Mr. Trump, who himself has been accused of sexual misconduct, focused instead on Mr. Porter, saying that he was enduring a “tough time.”

Of course, this is the same man who makes unfounded claims against his enemies all the time…

BREAKING: Trump Won’t Release Democratic Intelligence Memo

What a shocker.

He’s obstructed other info in the investigation, why stop now?

I should note that Trump blames national security/FBI recommendations as to why he can’t release the Democratic memo, but ignored those same warnings when it came to the Nunes memo.

From CNN:

President Donald Trump won’t release the Democratic rebuttal to the Republican intelligence memo alleging FBI abuses of its surveillance authority at this time, and has sent it back to the House Intelligence Committee for changes.

In a letter to the committee, White House Counsel Donald McGahn said, “although the President is inclined to declassify the February 5th Memorandum, because the Memorandum contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages, he is unable to do so at this time.”

Trump said earlier Friday he planned to release the memo.

“It’s gonna be released soon,” Trump told reporters at the White House, adding, “We’re going to release a letter.”

The House Intelligence Committee voted unanimously on Monday to release the 10-page Democratic memo, and the committee rules gave Trump five days to decide whether to block or allow its release.

Jimmy Kimmel Trolls California Baker Who Refuses To Make Same-Sex Wedding Cake

I recently reported on the ruling by a judge in Kern County, California, that allowed a Bakersfield baker to continue to deny selling a wedding cake to same-sex couples based on the baker’s “deeply held religious beliefs.”

Jimmy Kimmel obviously heard about the ruling and recently staged this little skit to explain why the thinking behind the ruling is flawed.

Here’s the clip description:

A controversial decision came from a court in Kern County, California that ruled in favor of a bakery that refused to make a cake for a same-sex wedding because the owner said it would violate her Christian faith.

This isn’t the first instance of a bakery refusing to make a cake for a same-sex wedding, there’s a case right now in the Supreme Court, but the judge’s ruling in this particular case is interesting. He says the bakery would have violated the law if it refused to sell the gay couple a cake that was already baked, but that they can’t be forced to bake one.

So Jimmy uses a common restaurant dining experience to explain why this isn’t right.

Pro Wrestler Jake Atlas Comes Out

Jake Atlas (image via Instagram)

Pro wrestler Jake Atlas recently came out via a statement on his Facebook:

In July 2015, I made a bold statement to my trainer, Robby Phoenix that I would win the Rookie of the Year award. Brody King, Douglas James and myself started our training around the same time, so when they won the award, I promised them that I would finish the trifecta.

This award may mean a lot to some and nothing to others, but to me however, it is my biggest accomplishment to date. The award itself, of course, but the journey to achieving it is what I am most proud of. The commitment, sacrifice, and dedication to reach a goal I set out for myself proves that with hard work, it’s what you put out that determines what you receive.

I’ve been trained by the very best in Joey Kaos, Los Luchas, Kevin Condron and Robby Phoenix. I owe it to them for instilling important values that help me strive for success each and every day. I’m proud to represent the best school in California (and one of the best in the nation.)

Last, I am proud to fulfill my promise of coming out publicly about my sexuality to be a voice for those that struggle with this issue like I have for many, many years; to be a voice that reminds everyone in the same shoes that there is nothing you cannot achieve.

I made history. And I plan to make more. This is only the beginning of many “firsts” left to come in my career. Thank you.

Congrats, Jake!

Trump Says Democratic Intelligence Memo To Be “Released Soon”

From CNN:

President Donald Trump says he plans to release the Democratic rebuttal to the Republican intelligence memo alleging FBI abuses of its surveillance authority.

“It’s gonna be released soon,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday, adding, “We’re going to release a letter.”

The President was granted until Friday to decide whether to block or allow the release of the 10-page Democratic memo after the House Intelligence Committee voted unanimously to make it public.

CNN reported Wednesday that Trump is expected to authorize the release of the Democratic memo after a review process, barring any threat to national security.

The Democratic memo, penned by the committee’s ranking member, Rep. Adam Schiff, is expected to directly rebut the Republican memo, which accuses the FBI of abusing the surveillance process in obtaining a warrant on former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page.

Trump Defends Rob Porter: “He Says He’s Innocent And I Think You Have To Remember That”

CNN gets the award for Shade of the Day with that banner

What is it with Donald Trump that he has to defend White House advisers as they exit due to their own bad behavior?

This morning, Trump defended now-defunct White House staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned this week after TWO ex-wives alleged domestic abuse which apparently torpedoed his security clearance.

Trump made a point of telling reporters that he only recently became aware of Porter’s history of abuse, says he “was very surprised by it,” adding, “It’s obviously a tough time for him.”

“We wish him well. He worked very hard. I found out about it recently and I was surprised by it. But we certainly wish him well. It’s obviously a tough time for him. He did a very good job when he was in the White House. And we hope he has a wonderful career. Hopefully, he will have a great career ahead of him. But, it was very sad when we heard about it. And certainly, he’s also very sad.

“Now he also, as you probably know, he says he’s innocent and I think you have to remember that. He said very strongly yesterday that he’s innocent. So, you’ll have to talk to him about that. But we absolutely wish him well. Did a very good job while he was at the White House.”

Gee, I’ll bet it was a tough time for the ex-wives. But Trump’s got nothing for them.

Trump also said Porter “says he’s innocent and I think you have to remember that […] but we absolutely wish him well.”

The Donald didn’t address the fact that Porter is currently dating White House communications director Hope Hicks, who is one of his closest advisers.

Hmm, wonder why?

It might have something to do with this:

And just to show there’s ALWAYS a tweet…

Gay Olympians At Opening Ceremony: “We’re Here, We’re Queer, Get Used To It”

History was made today as freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy and figure skater Adam Rippon took part in the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Olympics as the two first openly gay U.S. athletes to ever qualify for the Winter Games.

Entering the Olympic stadium with Team USA, the athletes shared several Twitter shots of themselves at the ceremony, hugging and beaming huge smiles.

“We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it,” Kenworthy tweeted from the event.

Go get’em, boys!

Shirtless Tongan Athlete Is Back For 2018 Winter Olympics

One of the highlights of 2016 Summer Olympics was Pita Taufatofua, flag bearer for Tonga, during the opening ceremony. The moment he entered the Maracanã Stadium for the Parade of Nations he became a media sensation.

Wearing just a necklace and traditional ta’ovala, a Tongan mat, his muscled, oiled body and handsome face captured the world’s attention.

Representing the tiny South Pacific nation in taekwondo, Taufatofua was unfortunately eliminated in his first bout.

But, as I recently reported, the Tongan athlete decided he didn’t want to wait four years to compete at the Olympics again so in an improbable and incredible journey he learned how to cross-country ski in one year.

He traveled the world to participate in qualifying races and, amazingly, finds himself at the 2018 Winter Olympics as only the second athlete from Tonga to ever qualify for a Winter Games.

And he didn’t disappoint during the opening ceremonies today as he once again carried his country’s flag (yes, shirtless) during the Parade of Nations.

This guy just kills me. True Olympic spirit.

• Cosmopolitan invited several hunky U.S. Olympic athletes heading to Pyeongchang for the Winter Games to recite really cheesy pick-up lines as they gave a little peek at their well-toned bodies.
