White House: Do Democrats Love This Country More Than They Hate Trump?
As CIA Director Mike Pompeo’s chances of being confirmed as the new Secretary of State get dimmer and dimmer, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders decried Senate Democrats’ lack of support for the nominee.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, appearing this morning on Fox News, called out Senate Democrats for “hating” the Donald more than they love their country.
“Look, at some point, Democrats have to decide whether they love this country more than they hate this president. And they have to decide that they want to put the safety and the security and the diplomacy of our country ahead of their own political games. And we’re very hopeful that they will. Mike Pompeo is a highly qualified individual, top of his class at Harvard, first in his class at West Point. He’s been an impeccable CIA director.”
Do none of these people remember Republicans blocked President Obama at every turn???
Hard to believe Obstructionists May vote against Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State. The Dems will not approve hundreds of good people, including the Ambassador to Germany. They are maxing out the time on approval process for all, never happened before. Need more Republicans!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 23, 2018

51 votes needed to confirm Pompeo.
51 Republican Senators.
This idiot blames the Democrats.— Palmer Report (@PalmerReport) April 23, 2018
As Trump accuses Democrats of obstructing Mike Pompeo’s confirmation, keep in mind that it only takes a majority vote in the Senate in order for Mike Pompeo to be confirmed. The Republicans have a majority, meaning it is impossible for Democrats to obstruct his confirmation.— Ed Krassenstein 💎 (@EdKrassen) April 23, 2018
John Kerry: 94-3
Hillary Clinton: 94-2
Condi Rice: 85-13
Colin Powell: Unanimous Voice Vote
What does history tell us? Members of both parties have long believed that U.S. national security is too important to play politics with Secretary of State nominees.#ConfirmPompeo— Sarah Sanders (@PressSec) April 19, 2018
Members of both parties used to let sitting presidents nominate SCOTUS justices too, Sarah. Things change.— shauna (@goldengateblond) April 19, 2018
.@PressSec asks: “What does history tell us?”• Pompeo’s the 1st SecState nominee in history rejected by committee (GOP controlled to boot).
• McConnell will force a Senate vote, last done for any rejected cabinet nominee 73 years ago.

California: Teen Arrested In Connection With Murder Of Former Boyfriend

A 16-year-old high school student in California has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of Jeremy Sanchez, a 17-year-old classmate he had apparently been dating.
From The LA Times:
On Thursday, authorities arrested that 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder. The Sheriff’s Department first identified him as Jeremy’s friend but later said the two teens were in a romantic relationship. Investigators are looking into whether that played a role in the stabbing.
Investigators are still trying to confirm a motive for the slaying, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Interviews with family and friends led investigators to believe the 16-year-old was involved in Jeremy’s death. Corina would not confirm whether the young man confessed, but said the boy made statements that prompted investigators to obtain a search warrant for his home. There, they found “substantial” evidence that led to his arrest, Corina said.

Republicans Hope To Legalize Anti-LGBT Discrimination
Look out for more anti-LGBT action in Congress as the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act (CWPIA) has been introduced in both chambers of Congress.
Currently pending in the House as H.R. 1881, and in the Senate as S. 811, the legislation seeks to legalize LGBQ discrimination by allowing adoption providers to use “sincerely held religious beliefs” as a basis for denying gays or lesbians adoption services.
“Prohibits the federal government, and any state or local government that receives federal funding for any program that provides child welfare services under part B (Child and Family Services) or part E (Foster Care and Adoption Assistance) of title IV of the Social Security Act (SSAct), from discriminating or taking an adverse action against a child welfare service provider that declines to provide, facilitate, or refer for a child welfare service that conflicts with the provider’s sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions.”
The bill would require the Health and Human Services department to withhold 15% of federal funds from state or local governments that take action against folks who would exercise their right to discriminate against LGBTs.
#BadNews
Of course, the haters love the hateful bill:
If federal lawmakers want to show they care about children and families, there’s perhaps no better opportunity in the near term than by passing the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act (CWPIA). #adoption https://t.co/50ga42L03D— FRC (@FRCdc) April 20, 2018

Trump To Roll Back Transgender Health Care Protections
Donald Trump is looking to roll back a 2016 Health and Human Services rule put in place during the Obama administration that bars healthcare providers who receive federal funds from discriminating against transgender Americans.
From The New York Times:
The law prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in “any health program or activity” that receives federal financial assistance.
The Obama administration said the rule covered “almost all practicing physicians in the United States” because they accept some form of federal remuneration or reimbursement. It applies, for example, to hospitals that accept Medicare and doctors who receive Medicaid payments, as well as to insurers that participate in health insurance marketplaces.
The rule kept insurers from limiting health services like psychotherapy, counseling or hormone treatment as trans patients transitioned from one gender to another.
Some insurers attempted to dodge coverage for these patients saying the treatments were “cosmetic.”
Transgender Americans have been under fire since Donald Trump took office.
In addition to scaling back healthcare regulations, Trump has also proposed banning openly transgender people from serving in the U.S. military.
Plus, Trump’s Education Department has repealed protections allowing transgender students access to school bathrooms that align with their gender identity.
Video: Find Your Way Back
A dear friend of mine shared this today on Facebook, and wow, every single word resonated for me.
Small decisions can lead us to unexpected places. Small decisions can result in huge life choices.
But we can make the decision to undo those events; to choose to change direction.
I know this sounds like a bad Sunday morning cable ad, but its a truth worth repeating.
In my 20s, I fell in love with someone I cared for deeply. But the relationship was not healthy.
Even though we ended things after two years, the effects lingered in my life and behavior for years and years.
But, all these things are thoughts, and you can change a thought by changing your mind.
We are never “over the finish line” until we are over that final finish line.
Gay, straight, black, white, however you identify – the world will treat you as you treat yourself. Set your own best example.
I wrote this in two minutes because the video below spoke to me so hard.

Happy Saturday!
