Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” turns 30

It’s been on Journey’s set list every night for three decades running.

“Do you guys ever do a show without ‘Don’t Stop Believin’?” asks Jim Axelrod on CBS Sunday Morning.

“We haven’t,” says Journey’s Jonathan Cain. “Not since it’s been written, no.”

It may have started as solely Journey’s song – but it belongs to all of us now. The most covered, karaoked, and parodied song in modern music history.

With digital sales at almost four and a half million, it is officially the most downloaded song ever recorded in the 20th century.

Adam Anders is Glee’s executive music producer, who says the show’s creators originally wanted Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” to be the pilot episode’s killer closer, but were denied permission to use it. The rest, Anders says, is Gleek history.

Another case of the guilty dog barks the loudest

In Indiana, one of the Republican State Legislators who supported the passage this year of an anti-Gay Marriage amendment, Phillip Hinkle, was just outed when he was caught soliciting sex from a young man on Craigslist.

According to The Advocate, Hinkle invited an 18 year old man he met on Craigslist to a hotel, asking for “a few hours of your time.” He promised the young man $80 for his time, plus $50-$60 more for “a really good time.”

Apparently once the young man, Kameryn Gibson, found out that Hinkle was a politician – he tried to back out. Hinkle’s wife then called him and offered him $10,000 if he didn’t call the police or the media.

The Anti-Gay Marriage amendment in Indiana passed earlier this year with Hinkle’s help. However, Indiana law dictates that their next legislature must ratify the vote, then it moves on to a general vote.  Time will tell on that issue.

Telly Leung of GLEE to join upcoming B’way GODSPELL revival

Producer Ken Davenport announced that Telly Leung (“Glee,” Pacific Overtures, Flower Drum Song), Uzo Aduba (Coram Boy), Nick Blaemire (Cry-Baby) and Morgan James (Wonderland, The Addams Family) will join the previously announced Hunter Parrish (“Weeds,” Spring Awakening) in the upcoming Broadway revival of Godspell.

Parrish, as previously reported, will star as Jesus.

Godspell will begin previews Oct. 13 at Circle in the Square Theater. The musical will feature direction by Daniel Goldstein and choreography by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli. Opening night is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Godspell is produced by Ken Davenport, Edgar Lansbury and The People of Godspell. Complete casting will be announced soon.

CNN: Michele Bachmann dodging past statements about gays

Anderson Cooper digs into Michele Bachmann’s past statements about gays and lesbians and her newfound ability to ignore those statements.

As Anderson points out, what was at one time a defining issue for her – to the point she authored a Minnesota state constitutional amendment banning marriage equality – she now can only say that she is “running for the Presidency of the United States” and not interested in “light, frivolous matters” or “fringe or side issues.”

When a politician has spoken so very much on a subject, how do they suddenly decide the subject isn’t worth discussing?

Adam Carolla rails against LGBT community, passes it off as “comedy”

On his podcast last Thursday, Adam Carolla – the former “Man Show” host – spent several minutes of his show railing against, among other things, the idea of teaching people to respect the transgender community.

In his rant, he also told LGBT people to “shut up” because by speaking out about equality, they are “ruining his life” and said that members of the LGBT community should stop using the letters “LGBT” to describe themselves, and should instead use “YUCK.”

Carolla at one point asked: “When did we start giving a sh*t about these people?”

Adam Carolla just responded after LGBT community members and allies spoke out earlier today. Carolla stated: “I’m sorry my comments were hurtful. I’m a comedian, not a politician.”

Let me know when we’re supposed to start laughing…

“The Help” opens strong at the box office – Go see this movie!

Tate Taylor’s ‘The Help’ got off to an impressive start at the box office, grossing at least $25 million in its first weekend and earning a rare A+ CinemaScore from delighted moviegoers.

‘The Help’ is only the second movie of the year to receive an A+ CinemaScore.

The film almost beat the summer blockbuster “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” which made $27 million.

I saw the movie this Sunday, and it is a beautifully acted and powerfully told story. Viola Davis deserves an Academy Award in my opinion. Several other actors in the movie (Octavia Spencer, Sissy Spacek, Emma Stone) all deserve nomination and wins also.

I highly recommend seeing this fantastic movie.
