A Tale of Two Dads

Mark Maxwell and Tim Young of North Carolina are foster parents to four boys ranging in age from 13 to 24.

They are unable to jointly adopt the boys because despite being married in Washington, DC this year, the state of North Carolina prohibits adoption by same-sex couples.

Mark and Tim share their story of why marriage matters so much to their family.

The video is a joint project of Campaign for Southern Equality and Freedom to Marry.

Gay family holds funeral for the hideous Prop 8

The fabulous Leffew Family, who has become public advocates and activists for LGBT family rights after the passage of Prop 8 in California, shares this “funeral” for Prop 8.  They have shared their lives in a series of YouTube videos which have both inspired and moved thousands.

Perhaps a tad premature, but the LGBT community and our allies hope to see the end of this hideous law end before the end of this month.

Here’s a note from the family about this video:

My family has been fighting Prop 8 under the name Gay Family Values since Prop 8 became law in 2008.

Since then we have been working to educate the public about the injustice of Prop 8 and laws like it by showing our family as it really is day to day. We had hoped to change the minds and hearts of people who may not understand that laws like Prop 8 strip LGBT men and women of vital legal protections and that many of us have families and Prop 8 made us into second class citizens. Our family has put our heart and soul into fighting this law and we hope we have entertained as well as enlightened.

However, now that Prop 8 on the verge of being done away with for good we needed a way to say goodbye to the law that launched us into activism and has been such a central part of our lives.

Please take a moment to watch and share this video and help us give Prop 8 the send off it deserves.

Thank you,
The Leffew Family

Sad Dog Diary

After the fab success of “Sad Cat Diary”, we now may know the intimate musings of our favorite canines such as they worry that they shook hands with a neighbor but have no idea what they agreed to with that handshake? (“Cat says this is how the Devil buys souls.”)

I love that Dog refers to his owner as “my dearest human…”

LOL.

Dogs rule.

Tony Perkins continues to support license to discriminate in the military

Funny how Tony Perkins can spin anything to support his own narrative.

Congressman John Fleming proposed an amendment which is now attached to the Defense Appropriations bill that would allow anyone in the military to denigrate gays and lesbians verbally as long as it was tied to their deeply held religious beliefs. “Burn in hell, faggot.” All good as long as you say you’re a Christian. It’s basically a license to discriminate. Which Tony Perkins likes.

President Obama has threatened to veto the Defense bill if that language isn’t removed. Soooo, Tony Perkins takes to his perch today to “spin doctor” the situation:

“President Obama can’t veto the First Amendment, so he’s doing the next best thing: refusing to let his troops exercise it.

“In his most combative move yet, the administration warned Congress yesterday that it strongly opposes Rep. John Fleming’s religious freedom amendment, which sailed through the House Armed Services Committee with bipartisan support.

“Now, the administration is taking its spite to new heights by threatening to withhold a year’s worth of defense funding over a simple amendment protecting the same rights our troops fight for every day. The administration, which had been content to drive faith underground in the military, is moving to its next phase: driving faith out.

“Welcome to Obama’s military, where open homosexuality is encouraged but open belief is not.” – Hate group leader Tony Perkins, via press release.

Amazing….

Music video: Cheyenne Jackson “Don’t Look At Me”

Cheyenne’s new video, “Don’t Look At Me,” drops today.

The video may be a bit deep for me, but Cheyenne’s performance and vocals are great.

The track is from his upcoming CD “I’m Blue, Skies” which will be released June 25th.

LGBT Pride Reception at the White House

President Obama delivers remarks at the LGBT Pride Month celebration at the White House. June 13, 2013.

In his remarks, President Obama called for passage of ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) saying “There’s a bipartisan bill moving forward in the Senate that would ban discrimination against all LGBT Americans in the workplace, now and forever,” Obama said. “We need to get that passed. I want to sign that bill. We need to get it done now.”

LGBT activists were quick to address those remarks calling on the President to sign an executive order that would achieve the same goals for the LGBT workers employed by federal contractors.
