Cher talks to Today Show about DOMA repeal, performing live, son Chaz

Cher chatted with the Today Show (in her leopard print pajamas, naturally) about performing on The Voice, whether her Farewell Tour was indeed her farewell tour, the DOMA ruling, Chaz’s transition, and her love life.

Said Cher of the DOMA ruling: “I thought it was amazing. It should never have been a law. It should never have been anything. It shouldn’t have been a thought. It shouldn’t have been a passing thought.”

New music: Matt Cardle & Melanie C – “Loving You”

I discovered the fab Matt Cardle along with most of the world as he won “The X Factor” in the UK and released his million selling single “When We Collide.” Since then,  he’s released his platinum selling debut album, Letters, and sophomore album The Fire.

Millions of sales later, ‘Loving You’ is the newest single from Matt  (featuring Melanie C) and it’s terrific.  Co-produced by Cardle with Jamie Scott & Toby Smith (ex-Jamiroquai). The track features Cardle on guitar and drums and is the first taster of his as-yet-untitled new album, due for release this October.  Release date for the single is August 18.

“I met Melanie at the Isle of Wight Festival last year,” says Cardle. “I’m a big fan and I’ve always loved her voice. I had already started writing ‘Loving You’, and I thought with a few changes it could work perfectly as a duet. I’m really thrilled with the song and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

One of a very elite group of male solo artists with a platinum-selling debut album, Cardle has sold over two million singles and albums combined, and has completed four sell-out UK tours in the past two years.

US Senate committee sets date for ENDA vote

A US Senate committee has set a date of July 10 for a vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, according to the Advocate:

The date set for the vote by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee is exactly two weeks after the court ruled against both Proposition 8 and a key section of the Defense of Marriage Act.

ENDA, which would ban workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, is expected to easily obtain committee approval, as all 12 Democrats on the Senate panel are cosponsors of the legislation, and Republican senator Mark Kirk of Illinois is as well.

Hugh Jackman’s wife on gay rumors: “Offensive, stupid, annoying…”

Deborra-Lee Furness, the 57-year-old actress married to Hugh Jackman, told 60 Minutes this weekend that speculating Jackman’s sexuality is “offensive,” “stupid,” and “annoying.”

So shut up already, guys.

She called the persistent gay rumors “frustrating” before her husband chipped in, telling cameras that “If I was [gay], I would be.”

“It’s just offensive,” she continued. “If he was gay, fine, he would say he’s gay. It has gotten so out of whack … it’s stupid, yeah, it’s annoying, because it’s not true.”

I think the gays just keep holding out hope because he’s talented, well-liked and um, LOOK at him. I don’t think the “rumors” are malicious.

In February the actor told The Hollywood Reporter the speculation “bugs” his wife and he revealed she has a hard time ignoring whispers about his alleged homosexuality. “She goes: ‘It’s big. It’s everywhere!'”

But clearly the wife is done with it.

Michigan: Equal protection lawsuit moves forward after DOMA repeal

An equal protections lawsuit that challenges Michigan’s ant-gay marriage law will move forward in the aftermath of the repeal of DOMA:

“Plaintiffs’ equal protection claim has sufficient merit to proceed.

“The United States Supreme Court’s recent decision in United States v. Windsor, No. 12-307 (U.S. Jun. 26, 2013), has provided the requisite precedential fodder for both parties to this litigation. plaintiffs are prepared to claim Windsor as their own.

“And why shouldn’t they? The Supreme Court has just invalidated a federal statute on equal protection grounds because it “place[d] same-sex couples in an unstable position of being in a second-tier marriage.” Id. slip op. at 23.

“Moreover, and of particular importance to this case, the justices expressed concern that the natural consequence of such discriminatory legislation would not only lead to the relegation of same-sex relationships to a form of second-tier status, but impair the rights of “tens of thousands of children now being raised by same-sex couples” as well. Id. This is exactly the type of harm plaintiffs seek to remedy in this case.”

Out PA lawmaker Brian Sims talks about his plans for marriage equality in his state

Out (and totally woofy) gay Pennsylvania state Representative Brian Sims, along with fellow Representative Steve Carter, sat down on Sunday to discuss their plans to introduce legislation in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives that would make same-sex marriage legal in the Keystone State.

Asked about his motivation to act, Rep. Sims stated,

“I was lucky enough to be born into a country that says I won’t be treated any differently under the law based on anyone’s selective interpretation of their own faith. Right now there are upwards of a million LGBT Pennsylvanians that are being treated differently under that law than similarly situated LGBT New Yorkers or Californians and that’s a huge problem. And the moment they cross into Pennsylvania do they lose the thousand or so federal rights just attached to them? And if that’s the case, where are we at right now in our government that people lose rights by crossing a border?”

Neil Patrick Harris to marry David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris says that he’s finally ready to put a ring on it and make an honest man out of his fiancé David Burtka.

The couple have been engaged now for seven years and had twins Harper and Gideon via surrogate in 2010. With DOMA now dead, and same-sex weddings back online in California, the couple is planning their very own, though no date is set as yet.

“Certainly, we have children and marriage is an appropriate thing to do [as] a part of their well being, so I’m sure it will be inevitable—and awesome!” Harris told E! News over the weekend. “We’re about to move to New York so it’s a tricky situation. I don’t know if it would be an east coast or west coast thing.”

“I’m not one who jumps around and cheers and screams because I thought that was inevitable and was going to happen,” he told E!. “It’s logical. If you look at public opinion polls, everyone, the majority of people, are very for people that fall in love with each other being able to own that.”
