Twitter Round-Up: Weekend Edition

Some really fun stuff on Twitter lately, so I thought I’d share some of my favorites:

And then there was this exchange between woofy Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims and out recording artist Bright Light Bright Light that made my morning:

And while we’re on the subject of Bright Light Bright Light, check out his synth-pop version of the holiday classic, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” released in 2017.

#FlashBackFriday – Appreciating David Beckham’s Big, Beautiful…Watch

David Beckham and his big, bodacious…watch
Let’s face it: former professional footballer and all-around hottie David Beckham is eye-candy for the ages. And here’s some #FBF action to prove it. A thread over at Reddit’s r/gay chat recently discovered this eye-catching meme from a while ago highlighting Beckham’s bodacious backside watch. How did I miss this??? The pic of Beckham’s “watch” went viral when an eagle-eyed fan zoomed in on the legendary footballer’s timepiece from Tudor Watches. It turns out the 44-year-old is an ambassador for the brand and wears their Black Bay Bronze diver’s watch. But in close-up, many found something much more interesting to focus on. The meme is fun, but so are the comments by the thirsty Redditors. Here are just some of the comments from the gays of Reddit showing their appreciation for Beckham’s big, fat, wonderful ‘watch:’ “He has such a nice…watch.” “I need to do things to that watch.” “I want to eat that watch.” “It’s a very form-fitting watch.” “The watch was literally the last thing I noticed.” “What watch?” “Goddamn, he’s got a watch you could bounce a quarter off of. That watch is so nice I wouldn’t mind adjusting it a little bit, and I’m a complete bottom.” But the winner for best response just might have to be: “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” And while we’re here, let’s take a quick trip through some of dashing David’s Instagram for some holiday inspiration and woofy goodness. Happy Friday!

‘Biblical Believer’ Asks Miss Manners Most Polite Way To Disinvite Gays To Christmas

Miss Manners’ Judith Martin (image via official Facebook)
Advice column Miss Manners recently received a letter from some ‘Biblical believers’ asking the most polite way to tell a gay family member their significant other isn’t welcome at a family Christmas celebration. It seems the matriarch of the family discovered a distant gay relative living in her city some years ago and has since made it a point to invite him to holiday gatherings. But the homophobe of the brood is apparently dismayed the family gay brings along his ‘male friend’ to the holiday festivities. “As committed Biblical believers, we believe homosexuality to be a serious sin and do not like being put in the position of appearing to condone it,” reads the missive. The writer adds that they haven’t said anything to the ‘distant relative’ yet because “we also feel that each person should have the right to make their own judgments.” After emailing family members saying they would like to come up for Christmas, the advice seeker was appalled the gay relative chimed in saying he and his ‘man friend’ would be available to join in. The bigot concludes their query by writing, “I feel this is presumptuous but am at a loss to know how to put a stop to it without causing offense.” Miss Manners’ Judith Martin clapped back with a perfect balance of good taste and common sense. “What strikes Miss Manners as ‘presumptuous’ is the idea that your attending a party with this relative and his partner condones homosexuality any more than your presence amounts to a referendum on the private life of anyone else present,” wrote Martin. BOOM! Miss Manners went on to suggest that “a bit of goodwill toward all would be appropriate for the holidays.” You know – that whole ‘Christ-like’ thing… But if the judgmental relative can’t make the leap to goodwill, Miss Manners suggests a Plan B. “People have the right to make their own judgments. And if yours precludes extending that, you should make other Christmas plans.” Miss Manners for the win. (source: Mercury News)

Stocking Stuffer: 2020 #GaysAgainstTrump Calendar

From the 2020 #GaysAgainstTrump Calendar
Guest post by Lawrence Pfeil Jr. This Christmas, many Americans are getting what it asked for – the impeachment of Donald J. Trump. With 11 shopping days until Christmas, we have a last-minute suggestion that’s fabulous, practical, sexy, and politically active all in one: The 2020 #GaysAgainstTrump Calendar. All the calendar models are members of an online community of gay men opposing Donald Trump’s dark time in the White House. Based in northwest Georgia, “Gays Against Trump” quickly went global including men from as far away as Scotland, South Africa, and Brazil (which has its own homophobic dictatorial President). The 2020 calendar promotes body positive images of men featuring bears & cubs – certain to please their admirers on your list.  Proceeds from the calendar will be used to flip red seats blue in the upcoming 2020 Georgia elections. Order your Gays Against Trump 2020 Calendar HERE Gays Against Trump also offers anonymous postcards with a political message.  They’re perfect for those MAGA friends and family because throwing coal at them isn’t part of the Green New Deal. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell would just adore getting this as a reminder of their duty before the impeachment trial begins in the Senate! Mayor Pete Goes Fanboy On Lizzo “I’m 100 Percent That…”

CBS This Morning hosted rising stars from both the political and music worlds as Democratic presidential hopeful Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Lizzo shared the green room this morning. Introducing the upcoming segments, host Gayle King turned to Buttigieg asking, “Mr. Mayor, what are three words that would best describe you?” Like a true fan, Mayor Pete replied, “‘Standing near Lizzo’ right now.” Responding to the same question, Lizzo – dressed in her diva best – answered, “Glamorous, talented, and booty-ful.” In a clear reference to Lizzo’s big hit “Truth Hurts,” King turned to Mayor Pete asking if he “had any DNA tests recently?” Fans of luscious Lizzo know the lyric, “I just took a DNA test / Turns out I’m 100 percent that bitch.” Showing he’s a Lizzo fan, Buttigieg didn’t miss a beat answering, “Yes, and I’m 100 percent (short pause) that nominee to lead the way to the future!” These are heady times for both Lizzo and Buttigieg. On top of her 8 Grammy Award nominations including Record of the Year and Song of the Year (“Truth Hurts”), the body-positive singer was just named TIME Magazine’s ‘Entertainer of the Year.’ And recent polls show Buttigieg surging to the front of the pack in the upcoming Democratic contests in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Tweet Of The Day: Paul Rudnick On Kellyanne Conway

Comedy writer Paul Rudnick tweets about White House adviser Kellyanne Conway, “Kellyanne told Fox News, ‘I’m not a woman who feels sorry for herself”, while feeling sorry for herself. She added, “I’m also in the Cats movie as Grizabella’s friend who, after she dies, steals her collar and sucks up to Judi Dench. My cat name is Kibbleskeeve.'”

SNL ‘s Star-Studded Spoof Of This Week’s Dem Debate

Saturday Night Live offered up an all-star lineup for its take on the 2020 Democratic debate this week with Melissa Villaseñor’s Rachel Maddow moderating. Mayor Pete’s closing statement: “America, I know I can do this because my supporters are a diverse coalition. From young to old, gay to straight, from white to eggshell.” ‘Villian for the night’ Tulsi Gabbard’s closing statement: “I have no interest in those dalmatian puppies. Muhwahahahahahaha!”

Bottles & Beefcake At The ‘Bad Boy’ Group Session

L-R Drew Canan, Artie O’Daly (screen capture)
Artie O’Daly is back with the latest installment of his Bad Boy web series. The episode opens on Scott (O’Daly) at the LGBT Center where he’s in session with his counselor Jamila (Julia Pace). Scott is frustrated his agent isn’t happy with the state of his most current movie script. “Do we please others or do we please ourselves?,” asks Jamila before offering some homespun advice. “I’m going to tell you something my mama told me: if you’re eating dinner and a friend stops by don’t share too much of your food. Uh-uh, cause then you’ll end up ordering pizza and that’ll take 30 minutes to get there.” Yeah, it didn’t make sense to Scott either. Before a real solution for Scott’s problem can be found, ‘bad boy’ BJ (Braden Davis) wanders in. It seems he always accompanies his mother to her AA meetings because “she’s usually too drunk to drive home after.” And since this is a group thing (psst – it isn’t) he has a problem he’d like to share. It seems his uncle tragically died last week on his farm where he sneezed right before going peacefully. Or, ‘piece-fully’ since the sneeze caused him to lose his balance and accidentally fall into the wood chipper. You know how that happens… Jamila has some sage advice from her mama on this one too: “Sometimes a door opens up and you can walk on through it, or you can stay where you are cause you’re going to be fine either way.” Mama had a way with words, don’t you know? But we can’t ruminate too long on that one because that AA meeting is over, so BJ’s mom Whitney (Theresa Ryan) joins the fun. And – surprise – she has a problem, too. She was apparently squatting in an empty house until ‘these people moved in,’ and now she’s having to hide/sleep in their closet. And before Jamila can solve that quandary, beefcake ‘bad boy’ Jim (Drew Canan) finds the fun. It seems he was having an HIV test because he likes to be sexually responsible. Wait – was that something that actually made sense??? Jim is still coping with the aforementioned tragic wood chipper death of his dad, but taking it well. “He’s on to greener pastures now, at least that’s where I heard they found him,” shares Jim. Not to give too much away, but like everyone we meet in O’Daly’s wacky ‘Bad Boy’ universe, you can’t trust that anyone is exactly who they seem to be. Hit play to see how the ‘session’ comes to a close. I’ve covered previous episodes of the clever (but often confounding) ‘Bad Boy’ web series here.
