Adam Carolla rails against LGBT community, passes it off as “comedy”

On his podcast last Thursday, Adam Carolla – the former “Man Show” host – spent several minutes of his show railing against, among other things, the idea of teaching people to respect the transgender community.

In his rant, he also told LGBT people to “shut up” because by speaking out about equality, they are “ruining his life” and said that members of the LGBT community should stop using the letters “LGBT” to describe themselves, and should instead use “YUCK.”

Carolla at one point asked: “When did we start giving a sh*t about these people?”

Adam Carolla just responded after LGBT community members and allies spoke out earlier today. Carolla stated: “I’m sorry my comments were hurtful. I’m a comedian, not a politician.”

Let me know when we’re supposed to start laughing…

“The Help” opens strong at the box office – Go see this movie!

Tate Taylor’s ‘The Help’ got off to an impressive start at the box office, grossing at least $25 million in its first weekend and earning a rare A+ CinemaScore from delighted moviegoers.

‘The Help’ is only the second movie of the year to receive an A+ CinemaScore.

The film almost beat the summer blockbuster “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” which made $27 million.

I saw the movie this Sunday, and it is a beautifully acted and powerfully told story. Viola Davis deserves an Academy Award in my opinion. Several other actors in the movie (Octavia Spencer, Sissy Spacek, Emma Stone) all deserve nomination and wins also.

I highly recommend seeing this fantastic movie.

98 Degrees star and current Special Musical Guest/MC for Chippendales at the Rio in Las Vegas recently tweeted this pic saying:

“Working in the studio at The Palms in Las Vegas. Always record in my undies. Is that weird?”

I vote “not weird at all” – if I looked like that I’d work in my briefs too.  And can you believe Jeff doesn’t like to wear shorts in public because he doesn’t care for his legs for some reason.  I think he looks pretty amazing.

Warren Buffett – “Stop Coddling the Super-Rich”

In a New York Times op-ed piece today, Warren Buffett has publicly asked elected officials to “stop coddling the super rich.” In the article he advocates for higher taxes for the very rich.  Not the middle class or lower class – the very rich.

While the poor and middle class fight for us in Afghanistan, and while most Americans struggle to make ends meet, we mega-rich continue to get our extraordinary tax breaks. Some of us are investment managers who earn billions from our daily labors but are allowed to classify our income as “carried interest,” thereby getting a bargain 15 percent tax rate.

Last year my federal tax bill — the income tax I paid, as well as payroll taxes paid by me and on my behalf — was $6,938,744. That sounds like a lot of money. But what I paid was only 17.4 percent of my taxable income — and that’s actually a lower percentage than was paid by any of the other 20 people in our office. Their tax burdens ranged from 33 percent to 41 percent and averaged 36 percent.

The mega-rich pay income taxes at a rate of 15 percent on most of their earnings but pay practically nothing in payroll taxes. It’s a different story for the middle class: typically, they fall into the 15 percent and 25 percent income tax brackets, and then are hit with heavy payroll taxes to boot.

I would leave (income tax) rates for 99.7 percent of taxpayers unchanged and continue the current 2-percentage-point reduction in the employee contribution to the payroll tax. This cut helps the poor and the middle class, who need every break they can get.

But for those making more than $1 million — there were 236,883 such households in 2009 — I would raise rates immediately on taxable income in excess of $1 million, including, of course, dividends and capital gains. And for those who make $10 million or more — there were 8,274 in 2009 — I would suggest an additional increase in rate.

My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress. It’s time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice.

Gov. Rick Perry on why teach abstinence

If nothing else, watch the first minute as twice the Governor is asked why spend state dollars teaching abstinence when Texas has the 3rd highest teen pregnancy rank in the country. Over and over the governor just answers “because abstinence works.”

This will make for a fascinating election cycle between Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann simply never answering questions directly.

Alaskan citizen calls Sarah Palin a ‘sell-out’

At the Iowa State Fair, a former constituent of half-term Governor Sarah Palin caught up with Sarah’s husband Todd – the San Francisco Chronicle captured it all on tape. Catch the interplay between Todd and the citizen from Alaska:

“We’re from Alaska; we were sick when she quit,” the woman shouted as the former governor’s husband worked the crowd.

Todd: “What would you recommend doing when you got $600,000, $700,000 of debt hanging over your head, and you still have all these people filing complaints against you? What would you do?”

Woman: “Well, you go for the money obviously. That’s what she did. Everybody in Alaska thinks she sold out.”

Mr. Palin tries to further explain himself, again saying that he and his family were suffering under debt. The woman wasn’t having it: “[The debt’s] not there anymore is it? You got quite the deal.”

And over her shoulder as she walked away: “Sell out.”
