Michele Bachmann denies judging gays

During an appearance on ‘Meet The Press,’ host David Gregory playeda recording of Michele Bachmann saying to an audience at the 2004 EdWatch National Education Conference that being gay “is a very sad life” and “a part of Satan.” She went on to say in the speech that being gay was “personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement.”

Bachmann ducked the direct question over and over again of whether those statements represent a possible “President Bachmann.”

Her answer to the question more than once was “I’m running for the Presidency of the United States.” Over and over she says she doesn’t ‘judge’ people.

Even after being asked if American gays and lesbians might hear judgement in her statements, she reiterated she doesn’t judge people.

Let me try an experiment – I know as much about Michele Bachmann and her marriage as she knows about mine and she feels free to comment on my gay marriage, so I guess I have a right to try this: how about I swap her name for “gays” in her statement? It would go like this:

“Michele Bachmann lives a very sad life. It’s part of Satan. If you’re involved with Michele Bachmann, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement. And that’s why she is so dangerous. We need to have profound compassion for people dealing with the very real issue of Michele Bachmann.”

There. Does that sound like judgement?

TX Gov. Rick Perry’s record will need some explaining

Pundits from the left and right agree on CNN that Gov. Rick Perry’s record in Texas will need some explaining.

While touting job creation accomplishments, Rick Perry hasn’t pointed to the fact that over a third of jobs created in Texas recently pay minimum wage or lower, which results in almost poverty level income.

Texas is the biggest polluter in the country, leading the nation in carbon dioxide emissions.

Rick Perry also proposed letting states opt out of Social Security and Medicare, programs very popular with a large part of the nation.

Perry is a strong proponent of Texas’s anti-sodomy law that was struck down in 2003 by the Supreme Court in Lawrence v. Texas. Calling the law “appropriate,” Perry dismissed the Court decision. Even after being struck down, Perry supports the Texas legislature’s refusal to remove the law from its books.

Last year, Perry claimed that “Texas has the best health care in the country.” In reality, Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents of any state.

It will be interesting to hear Gov. Perry extoll those virtues as he campaigns for the GOP nomination.

Michele Bachmann wins 2011 Iowa Straw Poll

Rep. Michele Bachmann barely beat out Rep. Ron Paul to win the 2011 Iowa Straw Poll.  Getting less than half the two top places was former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and falling even farther behind was former Sen. Rick Santorum.

While the results are non-binding, generally history has shown it to be very difficult to build or keep any momentum if placing less than first or second.

Anti-gay rhetoric at GOP Iowa Debate

Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann all had things to say about same-sex marriage and civil unions at last night’s GOP debate.

MITT ROMNEY: Marriage is a status. It’s not an activity that goes on within the walls of a state and as a result, our marriage status relationship should be constant across the country. I believe we should have a federal amendment to the Constitution that defines marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman.

JON HUNTSMAN: I also believe in civil unions, because I believe this nation can do a better job when it comes to equality and I believe we can do a better job when it comes to reciprocal beneficiary rights rights.

RON PAUL: I think marriages should be between a single man and a single woman and that the federal government shouldn’t be involved.

RICK SANTORUM: It sounds to me like Rep. Paul would say that polygamous marriages are okay.

MICHELE BACHMANN: I support the federal marriage amendment…and as president I would not nominate activist judges who would legislate from the bench.

“The Good Wife” gets a bit bad

When The Good Wife ended season two with Will & Alicia’s hotel tryst, you knew that carnal encounters would play an even bigger, yet totally new, role in season three. Check out this sneak peek at the show’s red-hot new ad campaign – sex is on the menu!

Spotlighting series star — and Emmy nominee — Julianna Margulies, the ad’s tagline pretty much says it all: “Don’t Let The Name Fool You!” In other words, Good is about to get very, very bad!

Which jives perfectly with Margulies’ wishes for season three. “I think she has to get enough backbone where she can carve out a space for herself, rather than be constantly sh** on,” the actress said at The 2011 Peabody Awards, where Good Wife was honored.

As for her relationship with Kalinda, Julianna hints that “It’s going to take a very long time for her to ever forgive Kalinda [for saying], ‘I didn’t know who you were, you were just a housewife.’ That was almost more insulting. I would like to see Alicia come around from that and show the world what being ‘just a housewife’ truly means!”

Poll: New Yorkers Happy with Marriage Equality

A new poll indicates that a solid majority of New Yorkers supports the marriage equality law that took effect last month, with 63% being opposed to the prospect of overturning the measure.

The NY1/Marist poll found that 55% of New York State residents support the new law, 36% oppose it and 9% are unsure.

Among registered voters, the percentages are quite similar. Support increases among people making more than $50,000 per year (59%), college graduates (62%), people under 45 years of age (62%), and the white population compared to the non-white population (67% to 59%).

Jeff Timmons and Chippendales help collect school supplies for needy kids in Las Vegas

Jeff Timmons and Chippendales Kris Davis & Jace Crispin were up early today to help FOX5’s “Supply Our Students” program.

The guys participated in the supply drive today with Monica Jackson of FOX5 in making sure needy students in the valley don’t get left behind this school year.

A massive number of pencils, rulers, and notebooks were among the many school supplies received for the Supply Our Students Drive.

The effort, which is being spearheaded by FOX5, NV Energy, McDonalds, 102.7 The Coyote, 96.3 KKLZ, and the Salvation Army, collects school supplies for students 12 at-risk schools in the Title-One program. This year’s drive is especially important given the current downturn of the economy.
