Same-sex couples lift property values
As Bloomberg is reporting, a new study has revealed an economic benefit to those who support gay marriage and other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community causes, as the presence of same-sex couples may actually lift property values in neighborhoods.
The economics professors, who studied home values in 2000 in and around Columbus, Ohio, concluded that an increase in the number of same-sex couples by one in 1,000 households is associated with a 1.1 percent price premium in enclaves that backed gay marriage. The same influx in areas that didn’t support same-sex marriage was linked to a 1 percent discount.
Ummm… duh.

Brett Ratner drops “f*gs” bomb at movie screening
According to a report on New York Magazine’s Vulture site, several Twitter users and reports from GLAAD’s constituents, Tower Heist director and 2012 Academy Awards producer Brett Ratner made a remark that “Rehearsing is for f*gs” during a Q&A following a screening of his film.
According to The Wrap, the audience was left visibly stunned, and this prompted at least one person to get up and leave immediately. This language is completely unacceptable, and for a well-known director like Ratner to use it so cavalierly a manner in a public setting sends a dangerous message that slurs like this are okay to use.
GLAAD expressed outrage to Ratner through his representative at CAA this morning, and Ratner released a statement soon afterwards:
“I apologize for any offense my remarks caused. It was a dumb way of expressing myself. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words.”

Verdict reached in Michael Jackson manslaughter case
A jury has reached a verdict in the involuntary manslaughter case against Michael Jackson’s doctor.
Court officials say it will be read about 1 p.m. PST.
The verdict came Monday in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray.
Prosecutors depicted Murray as a reckless physician who abandoned Jackson while he was under the effects of the powerful anesthetic propofol on June 25, 2009.
Attorneys for the Houston-based cardiologist countered that Jackson was addicted to the drug and self-administered the fatal dose when Murray left his bedroom.
Murray agreed to become Jackson’s personal physician as the singer prepared for a series of comeback concerts in 2009.
Murray did not testify during the trial but previously acknowledged to police that he gave Jackson propofol and other sedatives on the morning the singer died.
Herman Cain – 4th accuser comes forward
A woman named Sharon Bialek, flanked by attorney Gloria Allred, said at a news conference Monday that the presidential candidate reached under her skirt and tried to push her head toward his crotch in a parked car in 1997. Bialek is a former staffer of the National Restaurant Association who says she was seeking to regain her job.
The Cain campaign immediately issued a statement declaring that “Mr. Cain has never harassed anyone” and dismissing what it called “bogus attacks.”
Bialek said she told two other people, one of them her boyfriend at the time, about the alleged groping, so corroborating witnesses could emerge.
According to Bialek, the two were having dinner when Cain informed her that he had upgraded her hotel room to what she described as a “palatial suite.” When she mentioned her boyfriend and said she wanted “my job back,” Cain said he would “look into that,” Bialik said.
While driving back from dinner, Cain said he would show her the restaurant association’s offices and parked down the block. Then, according to Bialek, he slid his hand “under my skirt and reached for my genitals. He also grabbed my head and brought it toward his crotch.”
When she protested, mentioning her boyfriend, Bialek says Cain replied: “You want a job, right?”
But then, she added, “I asked him to stop, and he did.” Bialek said she never filed any kind of complaint but wants the former pizza executive to acknowledge what he did: “Mr. Cain, I implore you — make this right.”
Cain has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and has called the accusations a “smear campaign” in the week since the disclosure that two women reportedly received financial settlements from the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s after accusing Cain, who led the group at the time, of sexually inappropriate behavior while they were employed there.
Allegations that Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain sexually harassed women in the 1990s have begun to damage his bid for the White House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found. The poll showed the percentage of Republicans who view Cain favorably dropped 9 percentage points, to 57 percent from 66 percent a week ago.
