Trump Soho Hotel

In NYC for a day and staying at the Trump Soho Hotel (Michael was offered a free stay here).

Terrific hotel, I have to say.  The staff is very nice and professional.  The room is immaculate.

One of the fab touches: the TV remote can control all the lights, temperature and curtains in the room.  You don’t have to get out of bed for practically anything.

When we got back last night, we heard music and headed into the small club attached to the hotel, Kastel.  It was fairly empty when we walked in.  We decided to have a cocktail and while sitting in the loud dance music – great DJ by the way – the place filled up with about 30 party goers.  In my mind, I flattered myself that word got out we were there 🙂

Cool club, and loving being in SoHo for a day or so…

The Limelight NYC – 2011

From JoeMyGod

JoeMyGod reports that the famous (or infamous) Limelight  – which in it’s heyday was THE place to party in NYC with it’s dance music, go-go boys, and celebs – has now been converted into a shopping mall.  While just a bit of the structure remains, Joe reports you can still see where the DJ booth once was.

I went to the Limelight a few times in my early NYC days.  Sad to see what once was a bit of the hedonistic center of NYC night life end up so commercial and whitewashed.

Lord, who would have ever guessed?

Michael onstage with Olivia Newton-John for “Summer Nights”

I asked Olivia if Michael could be a “T-Bird” during ‘Summer Nights’ at the Atlantic City concert 12/9/11 for his birthday. The video starts as Olivia’s music director Andy Timmons got Michael all geared up to be a ‘greaser.’

So glad his parents were in the house to see this. Michael was a little numb from the shock of this all happening.

Whoo-hoo!

Andy Timmons plays Sgt. Pepper

Olivia Newton-John’s long time music director, Andy Timmons, has released his new CD “Andy Timmons plays Sgt. Pepper.”

Olivia’s fans were treated to several of the tracks from the new CD on her latest tour as Andy opened for Olivia in most of the tour cities.  I spoke to Andy after the concert and he really appreciates how people have supported the new CD.

You can check out the CD on Amazon.

Go Andy!

Olivia Newton-John in Atlantic City

Me, Olivia, Mykel McCarthy and Michael

Had an amazing time last night in Atlantic City with Olivia Newton-John at her concert at Caesars.  The concert was sold out and clearly the audience was in love before Olivia even hit the stage.

Great set of songs.  Of course the hits (Xanadu, Hopelessly Devoted To You, Physical, Have You Never Been Mellow, all that…) a medley of her earlier country hits, some Christmas songs (Christmas on My Radio, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas), some new songs (Weightless from her upcoming movie “A Few Best Men”) and ending with songs from Grease.  It’s amazing that Olivia sounds almost better than she did 30 years ago.  She was in excellent voice.

For Michael’s birthday, I asked Olivia to bring Michael up on stage to be a T-Bird in “Summer Nights” which was huge for Michael.  His parents were with us, so they got to see Michael sing onstage with Olivia.  Very cool.

Then we had some time backstage with Olivia and the band before her bus had to head on to Albany.

One last thing I gotta say: Olivia was wearing some fierce black pants and looked amazing in them. Sex symbol in her 60s.  It’s obvious why the public is still in love with Olivia and her music.

With her fab new movie, 2 CDs in the works plus some other things, I’m looking forward to Olivia’s 2012.

Xanadu!

Atlantic City

Greetings from Atlantic City!

Sorry for the reduction in posts. I’m in Atlantic City with Michael (we practically never get to travel together as the dogs usually only give permission for one of us to leave home at a time) and we have spotty Internet.

I met my father in law for the first time in 17 years yesterday and we’re seeing Olivia in concert tonight.

Looking forward to tonight!

Xanadu!
