New CBS series “Partners” to star Michael Urie of “Ugly Betty” & “How To Succeed…”

From Playbill: CBS has announced its new primetime lineup for the 2012-13 season. The new comedy “Partners,” starring Ugly Betty/How to Succeed‘s Michael Urie and David Krumholtz (Conversations with My Father), will air Monday nights at 8:30 PM ET.

Based on the lives of creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, “Partners,” according to CBS, is “about two life-long best friends and business partners whose ‘bromance’ is tested when one of them is engaged to be married. Joe (Krumholtz) is an accomplished architect who leads with his head and not his heart, especially in his love life. That’s in stark contrast to his gay co-worker, Louis (Urie), who is spontaneous, emotional and prone to exaggeration. Both have found joy in their love lives: Joe is newly engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush), a beautiful and sophisticated jewelry designer, while Louis is dating Wyatt (Brandon Routh), a vegan nurse who Louis insists is just a promotion away from becoming a doctor. As news of Joe’s engagement settles, time will tell if their business and personal bond can adapt to the addition of two other important relationships.” James Burrows directed the pilot.

Rapper Ice Cube is cool with gay marriage

Ice Cube agrees with Jay-Z: He’s cool with gay marriage.

“I’ve had people in my family, myself and a lot of my ancestors have been victims of discrimination. So I don’t want to discriminate on nobody,” the hip-hop star, actor and Coors Light pitchman told Ad Age today in a wide-ranging interview. “And I’m not worried about what people do in their bedrooms.”

“I’m cool with it. I’m already married, so I ain’t worried about too many other people, what they’re doing.”

The rapper’s comments come after Jay-Z earlier this week told CNN that he supported President Barack Obama’s decision to back same-sex marriage. “I’ve always thought it as something that was still, um, holding the country back,” Jay-Z told CNN. “What people do in their own home is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love.”

Floyd Mayweather supports gay marriage

From TMZ: Floyd Mayweather is squaring off against Manny Pacquiao … and once again it’s NOT in the ring — this time they’re fighting over gay marriage.

With the media still buzzing over Manny’s controversial condemnation of gay marriage… Pretty Boy Floyd released a counter-statement on Twitter saying: “I stand behind President Obama & support gay marriage.  I’m an American citizen & I believe people should live their life the way they want.”

There’s a champion…

Graph showing job growth during the Obama Administration.  Statistics from Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The red bars indicate President Bush’s last months.  The blue indicates the initial job losses during Obama’s first months in office before his policies could make an impact.

After one year of stopping the bleeding, we moved into positive territory.  We’ve actually seen over two years of positive private sector job growth.

Remember – Mitt Romney says this is the wrong direction.  So instead of job growth, is he saying he wants to go in the other direction and LOSE more jobs???

The brilliant and fabulous Lily Tomlin

Larry Edwards, Lily Tomlin, me and Michael backstage after Lily’s show at The Smith Center

So, Sunday I had the chance to enjoy the brilliant comedy of Lily Tomlin at the beautiful new Smith Center in Las Vegas as a guest of my friend Kirk Weber, who has known Lily for years.

This was my first trip to the Smith Center since it opened. Not only is it beautiful but it was packed for the Mother’s Day performance by the ever insightful and hilarious Lily Tomlin.

How do you even begin to write about a talent this sharp, this astute, this observant of the human condition?  Ms. Tomlin gave us a few glimpses of her iconic characters like “Edith Ann” and “Ernestine” but also didn’t shy away from topical issues like President Obama’s support for gay marriage.

It was interesting to sit in an audience that was clearly split on the subject and not prepared when she brought up the subject of marriage equality: “I’m really ambivalent on the idea of gay marriage – I mean, once you start with gay marriage where do you do next?  Monster truck rallies?  It’s such a slippery slope…  And while I applaud the President’s courage to embrace gay marriage, it may cost him votes.  Although, on one hand you have the President – who’s a human being…”   And from there she just let the audience fill in the gap.

It was really fun watching a comedic genius at work.  Her pace, her body language, even the cut of her eyes told you volumes of where we were going next.

Many people are so comfortable with Ms. Tomlin’s expertise at her own comedy some may have forgotten that she was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in the film “Nashville” in addition to all the other awards (Grammy, Emmy, Tony, NY Film Critics) she has won.

Backstage I was able to catch up to her briefly before she had to catch a flight out.  She did mention that she mention that we will be seeing more of her this fall as she will be starring in a new ABC TV series that was just picked up – “Malibu Country” co-starring Reba McEntire.

Just Saturday night Reba tweeted “Okay, for those of you who do not know what “Malibu Country” is, it’s a new sit-com on ABC that I get to act in along with Lily Tomlin!!!”

On ‘Malibu Country,’ Tomlin will star as the mother of Reba’s character, who will be a Nashville mom who abandoned by her musician husband. He takes most of their money, which forces her to relocate to Malibu, Calif. to try and relaunch her career as a singer. Professional aspirations aside, she also has to deal with her responsibilities as a mother, keeping her three kids on the up and up in a new and foreign environment which is more materialistic than they are used to.

From the ABC website: “Her life reads like a country music tune: Her husband cheated on her and spent all of their money, and after she gets mad, she’s going to get even. From country music superstar/executive producer Reba McEntire and executive producer Kevin Abbott (Last Man Standing, My Name Is Earl, Reba) comes a hilarious new comedy about new beginnings that will make your heart sing.”

Look for it this fall.

Whoa! Next celebrity guest at Chippendales: Joey Lawrence

It’s going to get even hotter than usual in Las Vegas this summer as the Chippendales will welcome the talented (and hot) Joey Lawrence as their special celebrity guest MC and singer.

For three weeks starting June 7th through June 24th, Joey Lawrence will flex his muscles and vocal cords as he sings, dances and hosts the #1 male revue in Las Vegas.

I’m sure a LOT of the crunchy gossip blogs out there will spin this as “Joey is a stripper” but I hear he will not be “stripping” as his duties will fall more in the category of singing and hosting the show. Although, with a body like Joey’s I’m hoping he may at least take off his shirt at some point.

Joey’s appearance coincides with the roll out of the highly anticipated “Magic Mike” movie by Steven Soderbergh starring Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey opening June 29th. The movie is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s own experience as a dancer in an all-male revue. Considering the all-star hunky cast of the film, expect the movie to make even more women head to Las Vegas and the Chippendales at the Rio All-Suites Hotel.

Joey became a teen sensation and star in the 90ʼs hit television series “Blossom,” where his character Joey Russo emerged as a breakout character. Today, Lawrence stars on the #1 ABC Family series “Melissa & Joey,” with Melissa Joan Hart, which is about to begin its second season.

In 2007, Lawrence made his Broadway debut in Chicago.  More recently, he was a finalist on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and toured with the stage version of the show throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Joey’s has also had success in the music world: his international hit single “Nothing My Love Can’t Fix” hit #10 on Billboard Top 40 Mainstream charts.

Pastor buys Starbucks coffee then pours it out to “boycott” Starbucks

From the YouTube description – “Pastor Bob Enyart of Denver Bible Church joins DumpStarbucks.com by pouring his Venti (20 oz) Pike blend down a Colorado sewer because the company is trying to undermine the teach of Jesus Christ that God made us male and female at the beginning of creation.”

Please note – Boycott 101: Don’t buy the product of the company you’re boycotting.

Take a few minutes and sit with that.

We appreciate you supporting Starbucks and their inclusive policies. Thank you.
