Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) says he will (finally) swear-in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva of Arizona as a member of Congress on Wednesday, as per his office, marking 50 days since her election, coinciding with the House’s return from a prolonged recess.
Ms. Grijalva, a Democrat, secured won a special election held on September 23 for the Arizona position that became vacant following the passing of her father, Representative Raúl Grijalva.

Mr. Johnson has declined to permit her seating, despite numerous chances to do so, public appeals, a campaign for Democratic pressure, and ultimately, a federal lawsuit filed by Ms. Grijalva, which contended that Mr. Johnson lacked the power to keep delaying the process.
Johnson has defended his refusal saying he could not seat Ms. Grijalva while the House was out of session. But, there’s no such rule that would block the swearing-in of a duly elected member of Congress.
This postponement prevented Ms. Grijalva from moving freely within the Capitol complex or accessing the budget and other resources essential for her duties.
Grijalva has promised to be the last necessary signature on a bipartisan petition that would force a floor vote on a measure demanding the Justice Department release its files on the now-dead sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
CNN reports that two of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims are set to be present at the swearing-in ceremony. The video below is live, and the event is anticipated to occur around 4 PM ET.
