Thanks to the current high gas prices, ‘hypermilers’ are back — and I am so these people.
Hypermilers are folks who try to squeeze every possible mile out of a tank of gas via various driving habits including keeping tires properly inflated, accelerating gently, avoiding hard braking, anticipating red lights, coasting whenever possible, and always observing the speed limit.
For those who want to conserve without the constant attention to your driving, engage the “Eco” driving mode on your car (if it has it).

Hypermiling first became a “thing” back in 2008, the first time Americans faced $4 gas. But even without a name for it, folks were practicing similar techniques during the 1970s gas shortage and World War II gas rationing.
According to the New York Times, Bradlee Fons of Wisconsin says he’s getting 83.2 miles per gallon from his 2017 Toyota Prius which is marketed with a 52 mpg rating.
