Happy Friday! Some news items you might have missed:
• Them: 23-year-old Swedish skier Elis Lundholm set to make history as the first openly trans athlete to compete at a Winter Olympics. Although Lundholm is a trans man, he will compete in the women’s moguls and women’s dual mogul events in adherence to the current anti-trans restrictions of the IOC.
• The Advocate: Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed legislation today sending a slate of constitutional amendments to voters, including a measure that would finally erase the state’s ban on same-sex marriages and replace it with an affirmative right to marriage equality.
• KCRG: A bill banning LGBTQ subjects for middle and high school students is advancing through the Iowa state legislature.
• Instagram: Out Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy shared this political message in the snow before the beginning of the Winter Olympics in Milan. He later admitted it was urine. Bonus points for the penmanship…
• Yahoo News: Two former Arizona State University students are suing Sigma Alpha Epsilon, alleging they were subjected to months of extreme hazing (forced binge drinking, physical punishment and sexualized humiliation) during pledging. I joined a fraternity back in my college days, and I can attest that the pledging process can be rough.
• Politico: Republican Rep. Mark Amodei of Nevada (my state!) is joining the mass exodus from Congress saying he will not run for reelection this fall. That makes him the 51st House rep and 30th House Republican that will not seek reelection.
