Set in the mid 1990s, writer/director Carmen Emmi’s debut feature film Plainclothes – starring Russell Tovey and Tom Blyth – chronicles the journey of a young cop assigned to a sting operation targeting gay cruisers which ultimately leads him to confront his own sexuality.
The film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year in January.
The Hollywood Reporter called the film “a moving story told with sensitivity and beautifully acted by the two leads.”
And Deadline praised the “smoldering chemistry” between Tovey and Blyth, as well as the latter’s depiction of a “young man wrestling with his identity”.
I’m a fan of both actors, and the trailer looks appropriately taut with dramatic tension.
Plainclothes lands in theaters September 19.
