Over 170,000 people turned out for the Tel Aviv Pride Parade on Friday. Now in its 23rd year, the event is the largest LGBTQ gathering of its kind in the Middle East. From the AP:

The sprawling event in Israel’s seaside metropolis, which resembles a festive block party, returned last year after pandemic restrictions were mostly lifted. This year it is being held after Israel reopened to foreign tourists.

“We have a majority here in Israel that supports this community,” said Mayor Ron Huldai. “Tel Aviv has always been home for every transgender person, and every lesbian and gay person, and the home of anyone who wants to be who they are.”

According to reports, the number of attendees this year was much closer to pre-pandemic numbers than last year. Always one of the largest Pride events each year, in 2017 the attendance for Tel Aviv Pride was over 200,000. https://youtu.be/XxSaRStJ9AA https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceo1MLboy_e/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceol9OWtnu-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceoz3bPIoA2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceoei73rW4y/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
