Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Father Was Gay In New Memoir

In her new memoir, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me, Whoopi Goldberg reveals that her estranged father was gay. After her father left the family, Goldberg and her older brother were raised by her mom in the projects. Via Queerty:

“My mother didn’t talk about the marriage ending because she stayed married to him until the day he passed, nor do I think she ever thought of it as a failure,” writes Goldberg.

She adds, “It turns out that my dad was gay. Which couldn’t have been easy either.”

She says she later asked her mom how she knew her dad was gay, but the older woman wouldn’t go into details. She also had no interest in dating after they split as he was “the love of her life.”

And a son-in-law and three grandkids and one great grand[kid], that I don’t have time for a whole lot of other people. “Hit and runs are great,” she added. “I don’t mind those.
