Update: Streisand Is NOT Re-Cutting FUNNY GIRL Film

James Brolin has reversed his recent announcement that his wife, Barbra Streisand, was re-cutting/editing the ending of the Funny Girl film. Brolin apologized, saying he “misspoke” amid talk and tequila on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast. From Playbill:

“To my wife Barbra and all her fans, drinking tequila with Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast recently, I mistakenly mentioned the wrong film. I meant to say my wife was working on The Way We Were. Apologies for all the confusion,” reads the statement.

Many Streisand fans had already guessed as much, primarily because her desire to add back some cut scenes to the ending of The Way We Were has been a longtime project.

Brolin also shared that the work was being done for the film’s 50th anniversary, which came five years ago for Funny Girl.

The Way We Were is set to be re-released on 4k Blu-ray later this month for its actual 50th anniversary. The new release will include two cuts of the film, the original and Streisand’s extended version with two additional scenes.

Streisand’s highly-anticipated memoir, My Name Is Barbra, is due out November 7. (lead photo: James Brolin and Barbra Streisand – credit: s_bukley/Depositphotos)
