Trump Unable To Secure Half-Billion Bond To Appeal Fraud Case

According to his own lawyers, Donald Trump has not been able to secure the half-billion dollar bond required for him to appeal his civil fraud case in New York. His lawyers say it was “a practical impossibility.” But I thought he was a multi-billionaire…? https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1769754373658116450 From the New York Times:

The filing, coming one week before the bond is due, raised the prospect that the former president might face a financial crisis unless an appeals court comes to his rescue.

Mr. Trump has asked the appeals court to pause the $454 million judgment that a New York judge imposed on Mr. Trump last month, or accept a bond of only $100 million.

The former president has been unable to secure the full bond, his lawyers said in the court filing on Monday, despite “diligent efforts.” Those efforts included approaching about 30 companies, and yet, they said, he has encountered “insurmountable difficulties.”

Thirty companies have spurned Trump because he’s too much of a risk. They won’t risk their companies, but millions of Americans are willing to risk our democracy and vote for him. The $454 million penalty was levied by Judge Arthur Engoron after a trial showed Trump had falsely inflated his net worth in order to obtain more favorable loan rates. In order to file an appeal, Trump must post a bond in excess of the judgement (including interest he will owe) or the state Attorney General can begin seizing his assets on March 25. In my opinion, he should not be treated in worse or any better than any other citizen. If he can’t meet the bond requirement, the Attorney General should start seizing assets. If it were you or me, that is exactly what the court would be doing. https://twitter.com/keithboykin/status/1769745551623610588 https://twitter.com/robreiner/status/1769758540640481655 https://twitter.com/TheDailyEdge/status/1769756020438360230
