Donald Trump announced on social media that if the U.S. Supreme Court doesn’t allow him to put his name on the Kennedy Center, he will close it down for good.
The building needs repairs, but the claim that a complete shutdown is necessary remains disputed.
The Board of Trustees approved $257 million for those repairs in March, and there is no independent documentation showing Trump raised the $17 million he claims.
If this were genuinely about public safety, the renovation wouldn’t depend on Trump getting his name on the building.
