Trump: Iran Airstrikes Could Last “4 To 5 Weeks”

In his first remarks since the U.S. and Israel began the Iran airstrikes on Saturday, Donald Trump told reporters the attack could last “four to five weeks,” but “we have capability to go far longer than that.”

Trump then pivoted his attention to the gold drapes in the room.

From the New York Times (gift link):

Trump enumerated four objectives of the war: destroying Iran’s missile capabilities, “annihilating” its navy, preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and ensuring that “the Iranian regime” cannot continue to fund regional proxies.

Trump said one reason for the attack was that Iran “would have missiles capable of reaching our beautiful America.” American intelligence agencies believe Iran was probably years away from having missiles that can hit the United States.

After just a few minutes, Trump has moved on from his war in Iran to the curtains he’s picked out for the White House and his new ballroom. “I picked those drapes in my first term,” he says. “I always liked gold.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth became argumentative when asked a question to clarify one of Trump’s remarks.

New polling by CNN/SSRS shows 59% disapprove of the military action in Iran, and 60% don’t believe Trump has a clear plan for handling the Iran situation.
