Felon-elect Donald Trump has announced that his inauguration will now take place indoors due to incoming cold weather.

Such a change for Monday’s events means that far fewer people will be able to watch the moment when Mr. Trump officially becomes the 47th president, limiting it to a much smaller group of invited guests indoors and those watching on television.
The switch means the attendees, security officials and spectators will not have to endure dangerous conditions while watching in the bitter cold for hours.
It also avoids the potential for smaller crowds because of the cold; Mr. Trump’s fury at reports that he had smaller crowds in 2017 than President Obama had at his 2009 inauguration enraged him and sent him on a days-long effort to produce a counternarrative.
The swearing-in will take place in the U.S. Capitol rotunda where Ronald Reagan’s 1985 inauguration was held, and the inaugural parade will now be incorporated into a viewing party at Capital One Arena in Washington. The rotunda can reportedly accommodate about 100 people and the arena holds only 20,000 (far less than the National Mall) so Trump’s guest list will be pared down drastically. Not only have several millionaires and billionaires donated to the event (with an expectation of an invitation no doubt), but a large number of the 535 members of Congress usually attend with their own guests. Not this time it seems. Ever mindful of TV ratings, Trump ended his announcement about the location change saying, “This will be a very beautiful experience for all, and especially for the large TV audience!” It was 28 degrees on January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama was sworn in as president.
