Texas Republicans met for their first in-person convention since the start of the pandemic this weekend and approved several platform changes including calling being gay “an abnormal lifestyle,” and labeling gender-affirming care a form of medical malpractice.

According to The Texas Tribune, the new platform calls for, among other things:

• Treating homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice,” language that was not included in the 2018 or 2020 party platforms.

• Opposes offering any special protections for members of the LGBTQ community, and renounces penalties for those who discriminate against the community.

• The platform supports debunked and dangerous conversion therapy — which it terms “Reintegrative Therapy” — to turn members of the LGBTQ community into heterosexuals and eliminate “unwanted same-sex attraction.”

• Declaring that President Joe Biden “was not legitimately elected”

• Rebuking Sen. John Cornyn for taking part in bipartisan gun talks

Also – yet again, Texas Republicans shut out Log Cabin Republicans (a gay conservative group) from participating in the shindig.
