A new bill introduced in the Texas House, HB3399, seeks to expand the state’s prohibition on gender-affirming healthcare to include everyone including adults. The current ban concentrated on transgender youth, but we know it wasn’t ever really about “the children.”

Since September 1, 2023, gender-affirming care for minors has already been prohibited in Texas, barring medical professionals from prescribing puberty blockers or hormone therapy to those under 18. However, HB3399 broadens these restrictions to encompass adults, effectively removing access to a wide array of gender-affirming care for all individuals in the state, not just minors. It specifically targets hormone treatments, surgeries, and related interventions for those pursuing transition. The bill characterizes “transitioning” as efforts to change what it refers to as a person’s “biological sex,” based on sex organs, chromosomes, and biological profiles. Thankfully, the bill has just a single sponsor. So the likelihood of passage is low, but I think it’s important to know even a lone lawmaker in Texas took the time to file this.
They already have a ban on gender-affirming care for children.
Remember: It was never about children. “The new bill would simply replace “child” in the specific state law with “person,” expanding the existing ban to adults.” www.kxan.com/news/texas-p… [image or embed] — Autistic Science Person (@autsciperson.bsky.social) February 28, 2025 at 9:17 PM
