Sen. Ted Cruz Twists The Facts To “Defend” Religious Liberty

GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz takes Dick & Betty Odgaard of Grimes, Iowa, on a martyr tour trying to portray the couple as “victims” of the LGBT movement.

The Odgaards made news in 2013 when they turned away a gay couple who inquired about having their wedding at the gallery.

You’ll note how Cruz continually uses the word “church” to describe the building the couple owns. But the fact is, the BUSINESS the Odgaard’s own is not a religion-based business at all. They purchased the building in 2002 and operated the space as the Gortz Haus Gallery, an art gallery which also rented out for weddings.

Cruz also skips over the fact that Iowa has a very clear public accommodation law that bans discriminating against folks based on sexual orientation, just as you can’t turn away customers based on race or religion.

“Open for business” means open to all.

Eventually, the couple stopped hosting any weddings at all to avoid having to provide services to “the gays.”

Not sure how Cruz thinks this old story will cut through the clutter of the ongoing Trump campaign train.

Tony Perkins’ Shorts In A Knot Over President Obama’s National Prayer Breakfast Comments

In an email blast last night hate group leader Tony Perkins attacked the President for comments made at yesterday’s National Prayer Breakfast:

In a speech that I can only describe as surreal, the President went on to liken Christians to the monsters behind ISIS and American racism. “And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.” First of all, the crusades were almost a thousand years ago. ISIS is killing today. What’s more, every true follower of Christ condemns the acts of barbarism committed under the mask of religion — in medieval or American history. The teachings of Christianity do not call for, nor do they condone, brutality or bigotry. Can the same be said of Islam? Are Muslims around the world denouncing the ruthless and inhumane actions of ISIS?

While Perkins may not like the truth, Jim Crow laws and the Crusades DID happen. And the fact is we must learn from the past.

Interesting that in arguing against marriage equality, Perkins LIKES to reference the past, but today when the Crusades are mentioned he dismisses the issue with “that was almost a thousand years ago.”

More and more Perkins gets his panties in a wad over occasions when the President doesn’t choose to use Perkin’s specific language on issues. It really seems to turn him into an impertinent child.

Watch below as Perkins appears on, where else?, Fox News:

Matt Trewhella, Voice of Christian Youth America, mocks gay people as “filthy”

Voice of Christian Youth America host Matt Trewhella lashes out at gay people as “filthy” and gay-friendly straight people as “disgusting.”

Here’s the text of the clip:

“Your children would be getting perverted in their minds by these filthy people,” Trewhella claimed, before turning his venom to straight people who don’t condemn gays and lesbians: “I have no respect for people who are parents, who actually have children, and have no problem with homosexuality or homosexual marriage. They are the most base people on the planet to have totally abandoned every God-given vestige to protect your child from the filth of homosexuality, to blatantly go along with it is disgusting.”

“It’s disgusting to watch, it’s disgusting to see,” Trewhella said.
