The long-running grand-daddy of LGBTQ blogs, JoeMyGod, recently celebrated its 21st “blogiversary.” Run by Joe Jervis, JMG is one of my favorite sources of news. Many folks refer to JMG as the country’s “gay editor-in-chief” for his extensive news consolidation. And he has the busiest comment section I’ve ever seen on a blog with hundreds of comments on every post. As part of his annual “blogiversary” post, Joe asked AI bots what they knew about his site and shared screen captures of the responses. My curiosity was piqued, so I asked three AI bots: “Tell me what you know about the LGBTQ blog The Randy Report.” Continue reading “Experiment: Ever Wondered What AI Knows About You?”

‘We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties…’
Hi folks, Just to a quick note to say you might have noticed The Randy Report has a ‘different’ look now. As they used to say back in the early days of television, “We are experiencing technical difficulties beyond our control…” Continue reading “‘We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties…’”
The Randy Report Honored Among ’20 Best Entertainment Podcasts Of 2021′
I received a totally unexpected surprise in my email today informing me my podcast, The Randy Report, was named one of the 20 Best Entertainment Podcasts of 2021 by Welp Magazine. How cool is that??? Not only is it flattering for the podcast to be acknowledged, but The Randy Report was recognized alongside major podcasts in entertainment reporting including Entertainment Tonight! I mean…. seriously. I really, really appreciate the inclusion in the list more than I can say. The podcast began as an extension of this here blog thingy. During the early days of The Randy Report blog, I co-hosted an online radio show called The Candi & Randy Show. It was something I’d never thought about doing, but the host, Candi Fox, asked me to join her after I’d done an interview and it was a lot of fun. I eventually had to step away because my plate was getting waaaay full between blogging and writing for other outlets. But I missed the vocal part of sharing LGBTQ news. So a couple of years later, I launched the podcast.
If you are a regular listener, you may have noticed that, unlike most podcasts, I have no advertising on the show. I set out to offer a succinct LGBTQ news magazine that would be convenient to listeners, and I didn’t want the clutter of ads. Fortunately, I’ve been able to do that for more than 200 episodes. And every episode sees continued audience growth which really makes my gay heart leap up. While we’re on the topic, I’ll add I was very proud when Metrosource included me in its “15 LGBTQ Podcasts To Keep You In The Know.” That, too, was super-cool. Thanks to all of you listeners who join me for what I like to call “the 60 Minutes of gay news…only shorter.” If you don’t already, check out some episodes – a mix of celebrity interviews and weekly news round-ups – everywhere you get your podcasts including iTunes, Stitcher, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud and Spotify.

Celebrating The 10th Anniversary Of The Randy Report

As I think about the 10th anniversary rolling around, I’m aware of how The Randy Report has changed shape a few times since the beginning. At the launch, I was – like most bloggers back in the Stone Age – writing about my gay married life on what I then dubbed “My sassy American soapbox.” Back then, my posts were about a song I’d just listened to, civil unions for gays and lesbians coming to fruition, and a quick critique on the plastic containers of grocery store cold cuts. Soon, though, my focus on politics and same sex marriage began to make their way here more frequently. And I began to follow the daily news cycle more closely. Somewhere in there, ‘breaking news’ became a thing for me. God bless my friends who coped with me at parties when I’d duck into a quiet bedroom to post a piece on marriage equality coming to a particular state due to a court ruling. Even so, I’ve still chronicled episodes from my life – my wedding anniversaries; my furry family members; losing 20 pounds quickly to get back onstage in Chicago the Musical as I turned 50; and my likes and dislikes of any and everything. Oh, and how that cancer thing changed my life…
Because of my blog, freelance writing gigs came my way and the next thing I knew I was writing for ETonline and VEGAS Magazine and Las Vegas Pride Magazine. And then about three years ago, I started writing for Instinct Magazine pretty much every day. And along the way, The Randy Report podcast took off… I really do still have pride and enthusiasm for what I write. I especially want to thank all the awesome artists (and their publicists) who have helped make so many great interviews happen. Most of all, though, thanks to all of you for reading The Randy Report. It would not be nearly as much fun without you all joining me each day. So, thank you muchly. I thought I’d share my very first post from ten years ago. I remember writing this and thinking, “I have no idea what I’m doing.” And some days, I still feel the same way. And that’s ok. #Life Thanks for being here for my 10th anniversary, and here’s to the next chapter of The Randy Report.

Podcast: Chatting With ‘Sas’ – Broadway & TV’s Rachelle Rak
In this episode I chat with my longtime (and awesomely talented) friend, Rachelle Rak, or as she’s known to countless friends and fans, “Sas.” A quick run-down of her lengthy resume includes her many Broadway Credits: Fosse, Catch Me If You Can, The Look of Love, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Thou Shalt Not, Oklahoma!, and CATS. Numerous TV appearances including Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition and Dance Moms on Lifetime TV, and you’ll remember her from the Broadway documentary Every Little Step: The Making of A Chorus Line. There are two aspects to this chat: Two friends catching up on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected life, but also how the coronavirus crisis doesn’t have to slow us down.
