Massachusetts: Anti-gay crackpot Scott Lively launches campaign for governor

MassLive is reporting that vehemently anti-gay Scott Lively (currently being sued by a Ugandan civil rights group for crimes against humanity) has launched a campaign to become the next governor of Massachusetts:

His campaign motto is “Qualified. Experienced. Electable.” Publicly available campaign finance records show he has about $3,000 in his coffers, including a $2,000 loan to himself.

Lively said he does not believe being the target of a 2012 lawsuit in federal court leveled by Sexual Minorities Uganda in connection with his anti-homosexuality campaign in that country will hurt his chances as a candidate.

“If anything, I think it will help me when people learn how ridiculous the lawsuit is,” he said during an interview.

Lively is running as an independent in the “bluest of the blue states,” he said. He said he will be a viable option for conservatives whom, he said, have been abandoned by Republicans and have no connection with Democrats, to whom he refers as “Communists.”

“The people of Massachusetts need a candidate who can clearly and unapologetically articulate Biblical values without fear or compromise,” his campaign literature states. “They need a candidate who will tell the simple truth that abortion is murder, and homosexuality is condemned by God (but that Jesus forgives those who repent).”

Joe Jervis at JoeMyGod points out this shortlist of anti-gay atrocities connected to Lively:

• Lively says gays are bringing the end times.
• Lively says God sent meningitis to punish gays.
• Lively cheers Russia’s gay “propaganda” ban.
• Lively claims to have exploded a Massachusetts strip club with his prayers.
• Lively applauds Uganda’s brutal oppression of gay people.
• Lively launches Oklahoma campaign to legalize anti-gay discrimination.
• Lively says gay-friendly politicians should be tarred and feathered.
• Lively endorses life imprisonment for gay people in Uganda.
• Lively sued for crimes against humanity.
• Convicted pedophile arrested while managing Lively’s coffee shop

There you have it Massachusetts – your candidate for governor.

Scott Lively: Russia’s anti-gay laws are my proudest career achievemenys

Speaking to Bryan Fischer on his radio show, Scott Lively says he believes he played an indirect role in getting Russia to pass anti-gay laws and he says doing so is “one of the proudest achievements” of his career.

Lively is currently facing a lawsuit for crimes against humanity brought by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) on behalf of Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG), a Uganda-based coalition of LGBTI rights and advocacy groups.

Federal judge rejects Scott Lively’s request to dismiss “crimes against humanity” lawsuit

JoeMyGod has the news about virulently ant-gay Scott Lively’s current lawsuit for the anti-gay campaigns he has waged on the LGBT community.

From the Center For Constitutional Rights:

Today, in a first-of-its kind case brought by a Ugandan LGBTI advocacy organization against a prominent U.S. anti-gay extremist, a federal judge ruled that persecution on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is a crime against humanity and that the fundamental human rights of LGBTI people are protected under international law. The ruling means that the case brought by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) on behalf of Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG), a Uganda-based coalition of LGBTI rights and advocacy groups, can move forward over defendant Scott Lively’s request to dismiss the lawsuit.

“Widespread, systematic persecution of LGBTI people constitutes a crime against humanity that unquestionably violates international norms,” said Judge Michael Ponsor. “The history and current existence of discrimination against LGBTI people is precisely what qualifies them as a distinct targeted group eligible for protection under international law. The fact that a group continues to be vulnerable to widespread, systematic persecution in some parts of the world simply cannot shield one who commits a crime against humanity from liability.”

The lawsuit is based in part on Lively’s role in the creation of Uganda’s “Kill The Gays” bill. Lively also claims credit for spurring Russia’s ban on “homosexual propaganda,” which was enacted after he conducted a 50-city tour of that nation.

Read the judge’s 79-page ruling.

And here’s just a short list of some of Scott Lively’s work against gays and lesbians:

Anti-gay Pastor Scott Lively sued under international law for inciting persecution of gays

On Monday, January 7, lawyers representing Sexual Minorities Uganda will make oral arguments in a landmark case that aims to hold the American founder of Abiding Truth Ministries, anti-gay Scott Lively, responsible for inciting persecution of LGBT people in Uganda.

SMUG v. Scott Lively was filed in federal district court in March 2012, and alleges that the Evangelical pastor’s efforts in Uganda to equate homosexuality with the Nazis, Rwandan genocide, pedophilia and more, violate international human rights law.

Many observers lay Uganda’s still pending “kill the gays” bill squarely at Scott Lively’s feet.

The case is the first of its kind, and relies on a 200-year-old law known as the Alien Tort Statute, which gives “survivors of egregious human rights abuses, wherever committed, the right to sue the perpetrators in the United States,” according to the Center for Justice and Accountability
