Scott Lively: Gay Marriage Opponents Must Take Pitchforks & Torches To The Streets

Virulently anti-gay Scott Lively gives you dramatic flair today in an essay for World Net Daily over the coming of gay marriage:

“The natural family is the ecosystem of humanity! It must be preserved at all costs. How? By a populist uprising! The elites need to see the angry mob – liberals and conservatives together – surging through the streets, pitchforks and torches held aloft, ready to tear down Frankenstein’s castle with their bare hands if need be.

“For Christians it’s Jesus and the moneychangers time! Making a whip of cords like He did with His own hands, and letting these arrogant puppet-masters know we mean to use it (metaphorically speaking).

“The bottom line is this: The elitists always believe they’re smarter, wiser and better than you. They play the game of democracy to keep the peace, but they always follow their own agenda to the fullest extent the people will allow by their complacency. The only way to deter the elites is with the threat of the mob.

“They need to see the pitchforks and torches to know they’ve gone too far and need to back down.”

SRSLY. Pitchforks and torches in the streets. Arrogant puppet-masters.

Again and again I write: no one else’s families are threatened by gay and lesbian couples marrying.

No one.

The hysteria grows as the anti-gay mob sees a future where LGBT folks have the same rights as them.

And they just. Can’t. Stand. It.

Texas House Committee Approves End-Run Bill Around Same-Sex Marriage

A Texas state House committee has approved a bill along party lines that would attempt to stop same-sex marriage in the state should SCOTUS rule in favor of marriage equality:

The State Affairs Committee passed House Bill 4105, which would forbid the use of state or local funds for issuing same-sex marriage licenses. The 7-3 vote was along party lines, with only Republicans supporting the measure. The proposal now heads to a committee that schedules legislation for debate by the full House.

“The intent is to assert the sovereign rights of Texas and of the citizens of Texas,” said Rep. Cecil Bell, R-Magnolia, the bill’s author. “I believe it is a bipartisan issue — our social rights and our traditional values.”

Christina Gorczynski, campaign director for the pro-gay marriage advocacy group Texas Wins, said in a statement the measure is unconstitutional.

“HB 4105 is blatant discrimination, which is bad for business and our reputation nationwide,” Gorczynski said.

Texas’ state ban on same-sex marriage was struck down last year by a U.S. District Judge. The state appealed that ruling to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in January, but it’s thought the ruling may be held until SCOTUS issues it’s ruling in June.

Sen. Ted Cruz Asks Evangelicals To Pray For “Biblical Marriage”

In a letter published by The American Renewal Project, Sen. Ted Cruz implores evangelicals to pray for “traditional” marriage as SCOTUS takes up the issue of marriage equality next week.

Dear American Pastor,

On Tuesday, April 28, the United States Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in favor of “same-sex marriage.”

How will the American church respond?

The prophet Daniel described the people who know their God as people who do two things: display strength and take action (Daniel 11:32).

How can the church rise to the occasion in this situation? Along with my friend David Lane of the American Renewal Project, I urge you to consider the following –

• Preach about biblical marriage on Sunday, April 26.

We know that marriage is intended to be sacred, beautiful, and nourishing. If you do not influence your congregation’s understanding of marriage, who will fill the void? Hollywood? Divorce courts?

• Lead prayer services on Tuesday, April 28.

Prayer moves our God to intervene in history. Prayer softens our hearts and brings us into alignment with the heart of God. The church has not shared the truth about marriage well: it is time to repent and commit ourselves to courage on this front.

Regardless of what happens in the Supreme Court, or anywhere else, we know that the truth will never be obsolete. The union of man and woman in marriage will always be relevant. People will continue to need marriage, and to desire it – because we are made in the image of God, creatures who value authentic companionship and intimate connection.

That leaves us only one question. Will we be on the right side of history, the side occupied by the Author of history? Otherwise we will fall victim to the fashions of the times.

Will we discard an institution, ordained by God, which has brought so much stability and happiness to the human family? Or will we stand in its support? Rightly or wrongly, the Supreme Court will take a stand on marriage this summer. Let’s take ours now.

Senator Ted Cruz

I will point out that should SCOTUS rule in favor of marriage equality, Cruz’s “traditional” marriage will be left intact and available for all heterosexuals to enjoy. No one will be forced to “discard an institution.” The only difference will be gays and lesbians will be included.

You see how they make themselves victims? It’s all in repeating the same divisive rhetoric over and over.

For The Record – Rick Santorum Would NOT Attend A Gay Wedding

Earlier this week, GOP candidate for president Sen. Marco Rubio said he would attend the gay wedding of a loved one or close friend, even though he doesn’t agree with their “choice.”

Calling into the Hugh Hewitt radio show, Rick “Frothy Mix” Santorum – who says he may also run for 2016 GOP nom – makes it clear he would NOT attend any gay wedding anywhere.

No way. No how. Uh-uh. Never.

Period.

Marco Rubio: I Would Attend A Gay Wedding

Speaking on Jorge Ramos’ Fusion show, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) says he would attend a gay wedding of someone he loved, but goes on to call being gay “a choice.”

Via Mediaite:

“If someone in your family or your office that happens to be gay and they invite you to their wedding, would you go?” Ramos asked the senator.

“If there’s somebody that I love that’s in my life, I don’t necessarily have to agree with their decisions or the decisions they’ve made to continue to love them and participate in important events,” Rubio said. He compared it to attending “second marriages,” which are not strictly allowed the Catholic faith.

“If it’s somebody in my life that I care for, of course I would,” Rubio reiterated on the question of attending gay weddings. “I’m not going to hurt them simply because I disagree with a choice they’ve made or because I disagree with a decision they’ve made, or whatever it may be.”

“Ultimately, if someone that you care for and is part of your family has decided to move in one direction or another or feels that way because of who they love, you respect that because you love them,” he concluded. Again, he compared the union of a same-sex couple to the divorce of a straight one. “If someone gets divorced, I’m not going to stop loving them,” he said.

Guam Is ThisClose To Having Marriage Equality

Guam looks like it wants to be the next Alabama.

Guam was set to become the first U.S. territory to make same-sex legal until the governor and lieutenant governor decided to gum up the works.

Two days after a lesbian couple were denied a marriage license, Loretta Pangelinan and Kathleen Aguero sued in federal court.

The federal courts fall under the jurisdiction of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled last October that Idaho and Nevada’s bans on same-sex marriage were unconstitutional.

That ruling becomes precedent for the other states and territories under the 9th’s jurisdiction.

That being the case, Guam Attorney General Elizabeth Barrett-Anderson issued a statement saying that “in accordance with the Ninth Circuit’s holding, and pending further ruling from the Supreme Court, the Department [of Public Health and Social Services] is herein advised to immediately begin processing of same gender marriage applications, and to review such applications in the normal course of business.”

This is where the governor and sidekick enter the fray:

Gov. Eddie Calvo and Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio issued a statement on the gay marriage issue. Although they respect the opinion of Attorney General Elizabeth Barrett-Anderson that Guam should allow same-sex marriage immediately, the administration is deferring a decision, according to the statement.

“If it is the will of the people of Guam to make same-sex marriage legal on Guam, then the Guam Legislature, the people of Guam’s representatives, can take action to change the law, or a referendum can be held giving the people of Guam a direct voice in this issue,” the statement read in part.

The administration’s legal team is reviewing the matter, according to the written statement.

There are five US territories: Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Jake Tapper To Marco Rubio: “You’re The Candidate Of Yesterday” On Marriage Equality

Speaking to newly announced GOP candidate for 2016 presidential nomination, Sen. Marco Rubio attempts to parse his position on same-sex marriage with young Republican voters:

“You are casting yourself as a candidate of a new generation, but there is an issue where you are very out of step with younger voters,” Tapper said, citing a Pew poll that showed 61% of young Republicans are in favor of same-sex marriage.

“On that issue, same-sex marriage, Senator, you’re the candidate of yesterday,” Tapper declared.

Rubio began by offering up the same defense that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has been known to use, saying that gay marriage is a “state issue” that he would not have to address as president.

Also, he added, “I think there’s still a significant number of Americans that believe that the definition of marriage should be that of one man and one woman, as it has been for thousands of years.”

“But they’re a minority,” Tapper pointed out.

Ireland: Marriage Equality Supporters “Bring Your Family With You”

Ireland’s marriage equality referendum will be held on May 22.

The citizens of Ireland will be add this line to existing law: “Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.”

Although polls show upwards of 70% of Irish voters support the legislation, proponents aren’t taking chances.

Many campaigns are underway like this one from BeLonG To Youth Services encouraging people to bring family members to the polls.
