Hillary Clinton Hopes For Pro-Marriage Equality Ruling From SCOTUS

Hillary Clinton supports a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court granting the right of same-sex couples to marry across the nation, a campaign spokesperson said Wednesday.

Adrienne Elrod, spokesperson for Hillary for America, affirmed Clinton believes same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry in a statement to the Washington Blade.

“Hillary Clinton supports marriage equality and hopes the Supreme Court will come down on the side of same-sex couples being guaranteed that constitutional right,” Elrod said.

The response follows uncertainty about Clinton’s position on same-sex marriage after she talked about a state-by-state approach to the issue an interview with National Public Radio last year.

Sen. Cory Booker Speaks from The Floor Of US Senate On The Story Of Jim Obergefell

Today, Senators Cory Booker and Sherrod Brown spoke on the floor of the US Senate sharing the story of SCOTUS plaintiff and longtime HRC Supporter Jim Obergefell.

“Jim and John’s story is moving, heartbreaking, inspiring, and unfortunately, all too common,” Sen. Booker said during his remarks on the Senate floor.

“Their story is about love conquering indifference and equality conquering inequality—but it is also about a larger question: whether our country will live up to the ideal of equality under the law it was founded under, or whether we will allow ourselves to be a land that denies some citizens fundamental rights while granting them to others, so, when we consider the rights of Jim Obergefell and John Arthur, we aren’t just talking about “gay rights.” We are talking about my rights. We are talking about your rights. We are talking about Constitutional rights. We are talking about human rights.”

Booker just rocks.

Gay Couple Featured in Hillary Video Invite Her To Their Wedding

Mediaite points up this interview on MSNBC of the gay couple featured in Hillary Clinton’s presidential announcement video.

The gay couple featured in Hillary Clinton‘s announcement video has officially invited her to their wedding. Jared Milrad and Nate Johnson showed up in the video, in which Clinton touts her campaign, and today they tweeted this out:

The couple appeared on MSNBC and spoke with Alex Wagner today, talking about how much they appreciate Clinton’s support and how surprised they were to be in the video. They said they haven’t received any formal invitation yet, but wouldn’t mind if she brought a certain plus-one with her.

New Reuters Poll Shows Strong Support For Same-Sex Marriage

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows strong support for a number of LGBT issues:

• 52% of Americans support same-sex marriage versus 32% who oppose.

• 54% say it’s wrong for businesses to refuse services to LGBTs versus 28% who say businesses should have a “license to discriminate.”

• 55% say businesses shouldn’t be able to refuse to hire certain people or members of certain groups (like LGBT folk), while 27% say businesses should be able to discriminate in terms of employment based on religious beliefs.

• 55% support all states recognizing same-sex marriages – even in the states that don’t permit such unions.

• When it comes to how we get to marriage equality nationwide, 34% feel the U.S. Supreme Court should decide; 22% feel the rights should be decided at state level via voter referendum; 11% say state lawmakers should lead the way; and only 8% feel Congress should handle the issue.

Barry Manilow Marries Longtime Partner In Private Palm Springs Ceremony

People magazine is reporting that Barry Manilow and longtime partner Garry Kief recently married in a private Palm Springs ceremony.

The confirmation comes after the National Enquirer broke the news earlier today.

Apparently, the couple did not file official paperwork regarding the wedding out of fear the news would leak.

The love song crooner has always kept his private life out of the spotlight, and according to reports he had concerns his fans might not approve.

I think his fans are a little more savvy to have not seen the obvious.

Congrats to the happy couple.

Michigan says that they don’t want to let gay people get married because that would be demeaning to gay people.

Kentucky says that their marriage ban isn’t discriminatory, since LGBTs are free to get straight-married.

Ohio wants to maintain its marriage ban out of concern for the people who voted for it.

And Tennessee is just fixated on sex.
