RuPaul Drives… Henry Rollins part 2

Who doesn’t love smart as a whip, tough as nails Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins?

The LGBT ally took a spin with RuPaul Drives last July, but the episode was so popular the producers have released more of the traveling conversation.

In this installment they discuss an invaluable piece of advice that Rollins received from a close friend who called him out for always staying busy.

Monday Morning Music: “Love Shack” The B-52s

This came into my mind this morning and had to hear it.

From the B-52s 1989 album Cosmic Thing, it was the band’s biggest hit. It was the band’s first song to reach the Billboard Top 40, and it hit the #3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Internationally, it was #2 in the UK and #1 in Australia for 8 weeks.

The song was apparently inspired by a cabin in Georgia where the band wrote “Rock Lobster” for their first album.

If you look, you can see superstar RuPaul dancing in the video.

The video for the song received an award from MTV as the Best Group Video, and was named the Best Single of 1989 by Rolling Stone.

Dare you to sit still while you listen.

Olivia Newton-John opens “Summer Nights” at the Flamingo Las Vegas in top form

Olivia and husband John Easterling arrive at the carpet
That’s my husband Michael in charge

Olivia Newton-John opened her new residency at the Flamingo Las Vegas last night to standing ovations throughout multi-genre song set.

Olivia was in fantastic form both vocally and visually.  Moving across the stage with amazing ease, she sailed through over 20 songs in a 90 minute set.   Highlights were a “take no prisoners” vocal at the end of “Sam” that brought the house down, and an emotional ‘you-could-hear-a-pin-drop’ rendition of “Send In The Clowns” that reminded the audience that the singer is also an actress.  This is an artist at the peak of her powers in terms of interpretation and vocal ability.

Celebrities in attendance were RuPaul, Dot Marie Jones of GLEE, Joey Lawrence of ABC Family’s “Melissa & Joey,” and rare audience member Marie Osmond who usually holds court on stage with her famous brother with their own long running show at the Flamingo.

You can see some of the red carpet action below:

And here are a few pics from the “Pink Carpet” and the opening night party held at the Flamingo poolside.

Just a day in LA – Olivia Newton-John, Joan Rivers and RuPaul

My hubby Michael sent me a couple of pics from his day yesterday in LA spent shooting some fun press events with Olivia Newton-John.

This is all in advance of Olivia’s launch of her concert residency “Summer Nights” at the Flamingo Las Vegas on April 8th.

Michael and Olivia started the day with Joan Rivers taping “Fashion Police” (set to air Friday), and ended with taking a ride with the fab RuPaul for his fun web series “RuPaul Drives.” You can be sure I’ll be posting that once it’s up.

How fab do they all look, especially my guy Michael?

RuPaul drives John Waters: Outsiders on the inside

In the latest episode of the web series, RuPaul Drives, the drag superstar and legendary filmmaker John Waters share their unique perspectives on being outsiders in society.

Waters recently finished a book called Carsick, which documents his travels while hitchhiking from Baltimore to San Francisco in search of “perverts.”

Here are some of the highlights:

Waters on his core audience: “Minorities that don’t even fit into their own minority. They can’t even get along with their fellow lunatics. That’s my core audience. People in prison with a sense of humor.”

RuPaul on finding refuge in being “weird”: “When you understand life’s twisted hoax, you then go, ‘Oh, okay. Now we can have some fun.”

Waters on being an outsider: “Everybody now wants to be an outsider. When we were young, nobody wanted to be. But now you and I should be insiders. That’s more perverted. That’s the ultimate revenge.”

Waters on rejection: “A ‘no’ is free. Ask for what you want. if you get turned down, so what? It doesn’t cost to ask for what you want.”
