Rep. John Fleming defends his “license to discriminate” amendment in Defense Authorization Act

Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana introduced (and saw passage) of an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill that allows and protects soldiers to scream and belittle gays in the military along the lines of “you will burn in hell” at gay soldiers based on “conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs.”

It is basically a license to discriminate.

President Obama has threatened to veto the bill if the language is not changed:

“The Administration strongly objects to section 530, which would require the Armed Forces to accommodate, except in cases of military necessity, ‘actions and speech’ reflecting the ‘conscience, moral principles, or religious beliefs of the member,’ the statement read. “By limiting the discretion of commanders to address potentially problematic speech and actions within their units, this provision would have a significant adverse effect on good order, discipline, morale, and mission accomplishment.”

Congressman John Fleming responded to the White House statement:

“President Obama is continuing his war on free speech.

“With the IRS trying to intimidate and silence conservative groups, and the Justice Department digging into the phone records of reporters, it’s no surprise that the president also wants to deny First Amendment rights to our Armed Forces. With its statement, the White House is now endorsing military reprimands of members who keep a Bible on their desk or express a religious belief. That is an outrageous position, but it’s what I’ve come to expect from an administration that is aggressively hostile toward religious beliefs that it deems to be politically incorrect.

“My amendment protects, for our men and women in uniform, a principle enshrined in our Constitution and cherished since our Founding Fathers: the free exercise of one’s religious beliefs, including expressions of one’s belief.

“It has bipartisan support and takes into account the unique context of military service, accommodating the beliefs of our service members, while not jeopardizing military necessity. We need to protect the free speech of the brave warriors who fight to safeguard our liberties, and I hope Congress will reject this blatant White House attack on religious freedom.”

Matt Trewhella, Voice of Christian Youth America, mocks gay people as “filthy”

Voice of Christian Youth America host Matt Trewhella lashes out at gay people as “filthy” and gay-friendly straight people as “disgusting.”

Here’s the text of the clip:

“Your children would be getting perverted in their minds by these filthy people,” Trewhella claimed, before turning his venom to straight people who don’t condemn gays and lesbians: “I have no respect for people who are parents, who actually have children, and have no problem with homosexuality or homosexual marriage. They are the most base people on the planet to have totally abandoned every God-given vestige to protect your child from the filth of homosexuality, to blatantly go along with it is disgusting.”

“It’s disgusting to watch, it’s disgusting to see,” Trewhella said.

Poll: 32% favor making Christianity official US religion

From a new national HuffPost/YouGov poll:

Thirty-two percent said that they would favor a constitutional amendment making Christianity the official religion of the United States, with 52 percent saying they were opposed. 

An amendment to the US constitution would be necessary seeing as the very first line of the document reads “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…”

For those folks who say they honor the Constitution as written by our founders, this would clearly fly in the face of what the framers originally intended for our county.

In addition,  34 percent of adults would favor establishing Christianity as the official state religion in their own state, while 47 percent would oppose doing so.

Let’s hear it for the good guys at Washington United for Marriage!

Both of these ads are terrific in that they address the “religious freedom” concerns some people have. I think that’s a very good thing to at least attempt to let folks know churches and clergy won’t be forced to do anything against their faith.

I like these a lot.

North Carolina Pastor Calls For Death of ‘Queers & Homosexuals’


In a sermon blasting President Obama for his same-sex marriage support, Pastor Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina, offered his own solution to the so-called gay scourge: build an electric fence and let “lesbians, queers and homosexuals” starve to death.

“I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers,” he says in his sermon, delivered on May 13. “Build a great, big, large fence — 150 or 100 mile long — put all the lesbians in there. Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out. And you know what, in a few years, they’ll die.”

Worley fails to understand that gay people are born, not made, and that there would just be more LGBT folk coming down the line.

He also stated that if he’s asked who he’ll vote for, he’ll reply, “I’m not going to vote for a baby killer and a homosexual lover.”

The not-so-holy man concludes, “God have mercy. It makes me pukin’ sick to think about — I don’t even whether or not to say this in the pulpit — can you imagine kissing some man?”

Throughout the sermon, many of his congregants can be heard calling out “Amen.”
