A Prince Called Bear

Our youngest dachshund Bear

Our youngest dachshund Bear
Our little prince Bear when he was a pup
It was one year ago today that 16-year-old baby Bear, the youngest of our dachshund dynasty passed away. As he was born last of the three puppies (in Michael’s hands), we always thought of him as our little prince. But in his last seven months, being the lone dog of the house, he flourished and grew confident as the alpha of the house. Even on his last day, when the vets came into the house to assist with his crossing the rainbow bridge, he stood up and barked ferociously defending us from what he perceived as a threat. Our prince had become a knight. I couldn’t let the day go by without acknowledging how much we miss him, his dad and mom – Bruno and Sabrina, and siblings Tyler and Bandit. Since their passing, we have blessed with the amazing wonder beagle Snoopy. And now, mom and pup chihuahuas Scarlett and Brody. Please know I’m not sad – but happy that Bear and his brood happened to us. Boundless joy that stretched over two decades. Here’s one of my favorite videos of the Bear. #DogsRule https://www.instagram.com/p/CPOuBqNDJhU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Calendar Season: Shirtless Australian Firefighters Pose With Puppies

I know, I know, no one wants to see hunky, shirtless Australian firefighters pose with puppies.

But – just in case you did… 🙂

The 12 firefighters, who battled it out against 100 other hunks for the spot, are sharing their monthly spread with puppies that need happy homes in an effort to raise money for the RSPCA and Mates4mates, alongside their annual donations to The Children’s Hospital.

As of 2016, the Firefighters Calendar has raised an amazing $2.1 million AUD for their causes, and they want 2017 to be their best year yet. Along with new donations to their partners at RSPCA and Mates4mates, the Firefighters calendar is raising much-needed funds for the pediatric burns center and Camp OZ – a child burn victims program that’s so underfunded it risks being shut down.

Man arrested for throwing puppy from truck moving 50mph

Via AZfamily.com:An Arizona man has been arrested for animal cruelty after allegedly throwing a puppy from a vehicle which, according to witnesses, was moving at 50 miles an hour.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) arrested 27-year-old Joseph Kennedy, a resident of Cornville. He faces two felony counts of Cruelty to Animals, along with a charge of Possession of Dangerous Drugs and Paraphernalia.

The puppy was taken to a local emergency vet clinic. Vets say the dog suffered significant brain damage as a result of the incident.

MaryAnn Canning took the dog home and named it Hope. She got the call that YCSO made the arrest Monday night. “I was really happy, really really happy. Really relieved that Hope is going to get some justice,” she said.

After being detained by officers, Kennedy apparently resisted arrest.

According to reports, Kennedy had a fight with his girlfriend on the day of the incident, and while riding in a friend’s car threw the puppy out the window because “he didn’t care for the animal.” Kennedy’s 8-month old baby was also in the car at the time.

Imagine if the man had been in an even worse mood…?

I say throw him from a car moving at 50 miles an hour.

Although blind in one eye and dear, Hope is doing well in a foster home, according to sources.
