Raul Ryan & Donald Trump Issue Joint Statement After “Unity” Meeting

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan tweeted out this message today after his highly anticipated meeting with presumptive Republican front-runner Donald Trump:

“The United States cannot afford another four years of the Obama White House, which is what Hillary Clinton represents. That is why it’s critical that Republicans unite around our shared principals, advance a conservative agenda, and do all we can to win this fall.”

“While we were honest about our few differences, we recognize that there are also many important areas of common ground.

“We will be having additional discussions, but remain confident there’s a great opportunity to unify our party and win this fall, and we are totally committed to working together to achieve that goal. We are extremely proud of the fact that many millions of new voters have entered the primary system, far more than ever before in the Republican Party’s history.

“This was our first meeting, but it was a very positive step toward unification,

Sarah Palin: Paul Ryan’s Political Career “Is Over” For Not Supporting Donald Trump

Sarah Palin, the former half-term governor of Alaska, tells CNN’s Jake Tapper that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s “political career is over, but for a miracle, because he has so disrespected the will of the people.”

This is in reference to the news this past week that Ryan told the press he isn’t prepared “yet” to get behind Donald Trump as the 2016 Republican presidential nominee.

Palin posits that Ryan may be trying to torpedo Trump in this year’s election cycle to clear the way for himself come 2020.

Funny: Stephen Colbert Asks Paul Ryan About GOP Prez Nomination Over & Over Again

In his first ever Late Show appearance, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan shows a lighthearted side as he allowed himself to be questioned over and over again by host Stephen Colbert about the prospects of his accepting the Republican presidential nomination at a contested convention this summer.

“Yes or no—would you accept the nomination?” Colbert asked Ryan, who was sitting behind a massive desk and in front of an American flag, in a satellite feed from Washington.

“No, Stephen,” Ryan replied. “I have said I do not want, nor would I accept, the Republican nomination.”

“Got it,” Colbert said. “So—you’re considering the nomination?”

“No, I’m not.”

“OK. I’ll give you some time to mull this one over.” Long pause as Colbert licked the tip of his pen and pretended to scribble something. “How about now?”

“Still no.”

“So that’s a maybe?”

“No, it’s a no.”

“Like a ‘no no’? Or a ‘No, I don’t want to be speaker of the House, but I’ll accept it if you give it to me’ no?

“It’s a no no.”

“And two no nos make a yes?”

Speaker Of The House Paul Ryan: “I Do Not Want, Nor Will I Accept The Republican Nomination”

Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan held a press conference today to attempt to quell rumors that he’s running a “shadow campaign” to be the Republican Party’s presidential nominee in the event of a “contested convention” this summer.

From NPR:

“I want to put this to rest once and for all,” Ryan said of speculation that he could be chosen as the Republican presidential nominee this summer in a multiballot convention.

“Let me be clear: I do not want, nor will I accept the Republican nomination. So let me speak directly to the delegates on this: If no candidate has a majority on the first ballot, I believe you should only choose a person who actually participated in the primary. Count me out.”

“I simply believe that if you want to be the nominee — to be the president — you should actually run for it,” said Ryan, who ran in 2012 on the losing Republican ticket as the vice presidential nominee. “I chose not to. Therefore, I should not be considered. Period. End of story. I just think it would be wrong to go any other way. So, let me say again, I’m not going to be our party’s nominee.”

Folks continue to doubt Ryan’s pronouncement’s about not running for president in great part because similar protestations preceded his taking on the position of Speaker of the House.

Has Paul Ryan Released A Pre-Presidential Campaign Ad?

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has released a new video that has many wondering if it’s a prologue to a possible Republican presidential campaign.

Ryan has repeatedly said he has no interest in being the 2016 Republican presidential candidate should their be no current candidate arrive in Cleveland for the GOP convention without the requisite 1,237 delegates. But many have pointed to Ryan as someone the party could rally to in 2nd or 3rd ballot votes for a candidate.

And this video definitely has a “campaign flavor” to it.

In the video – titled “Politics These Days” – Ryan calls for uniting, not dividing the country.

“What really bothers me the most about politics these days is this notion of identity politics: that we’re going to win an election by dividing people, rather than inspiring people.

“So let’s have a battle of ideas. Let’s have a contest of whose ideas are better and why our ideas are better.”
